I don't get it.

 

Wow, that's so beautiful! How many of these peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers and lovers does it take to build a bridge, or a roads, or a building? Do these peacemakers get up before dawn to plow fields, tend stock, turn the light on and crank up the coffee maker and the ice machine? To me, hard working men and women are the real people that make the world habitable and humane.

Just sayin!

 

Y'all going all philosophical on me, I 'm just here trying to get a laugh... (I agree with the words above tho)

 

I really didn't mean to go off on that one but it smacked of a hypocrisy in the creative community that discount the engineers, the builders and the laborers as some how inferior to the thinkers, painters and poets. (The reverse is also true.) The truth is both are vitally important to humanity. The arts and the sciences should, not only coexist but enhance one another.

I agree with you. Engineering, building etc really is just another form of art. Look at the hand built exhaust thread. Those welds are beautiful. I've seen parts machined out of a chunk of aluminum that were incredible. I've seen buildings and cars and bikes that all qualify as works of art.

 

Ask yourself: What's really needed to sustain life, progress or profit?

 

There are many successful people who became so without being greedy or destructive. In general, the world would actually be better off without so many humans on her surface! "Earth plus plastic" (For you George Carlin fans)

 

It's still BS on so many levels. Only in the west, when our every need is met and even the poorest of the poor have advantages that would have impressed ancient kings, can we belittle and condemn our own civilization. The image, with the horrendous air pollution, is not from progress but from unbridled and unregulated industrial growth. We have the highest standard of living in the history of the world. Does it come with problems? Sure but reverting back to hunter gatherers and contemplating genocide on a mass scale to "save the planet" is just wrong thinking.
