I just picked up a 1998 VFR800. 28K miles in pretty good shape except for a right side low side. R. Lower Faring and engine case damaged. After bringing it home cleaning it up some I also noticed that the rear wheel is bent (probably from the low side crash), it's bent bad enough that the outside diameter of tire shows a little bump.

Question, do rear wheels from other Gen VFR's fit a 5th gen? Say 6th Gen wheels?

    BTW My first post here.

Welcome welcome, Happy new year, you have a nice one there worth the time and money to bring it back to where you'd like it. BTW you did good with eh photo, Yes a 6th gen wheel fit , But If and If , I just happen to have a 5thgen rim. laying around. again if. Being where you are located you may find one in your neighborhood. Depending on the damage to the faring, it may be easier , better, faster to repair IDK those pieces are slowly getting hard to come by, though they are available new at a $$$$$ :) Keep us informed how it goes, those 5th gens are sweet ride

Welcome to The World Mark! As far as rear wheels go, starting at the 1991 VFR750 all the way to the 2009 VFR800, the rear wheel bolt pattern is the same. Those early model 8 spoke wheels (1990-1993) are well sought after and can come at a premium. The one wheel that is slightly different is the 4 Gen (1994-1997) as the wheel width is only 5" vs. 5.5" for all the others.

I'm sure if you look on eBay or even the VFR forums, you'll be able to find a rear wheel, if not some fairings as well. Be advised that the aftermarket fairings from China are often hit or miss, so try and hold out for OEM if you can.

Oh way to go D.... I see, go ahead and let the cat out of the bag, Sheesh.. .. LOL all ribbing aside, yea the vfr rear rims from 1990 all fit, less the 2014 that' s a 5 lugger, Here's a photo just in case you haven't noticed, this infamous 8 spoke that OOTV spoke of, for some reason they are the latest trend ;)

How bad is it bent?. I rode with a slight bend in my rear wheel for many years commuting on the freeway and never could feel any difference in the ride. They are usually repairable and a minor cost. You may wish to check that out.

    Wheel Pic

Thanks for all of the responses!
Beside your responses, I even got the search function to work to find a couple of posts on using other year VFR wheels. :)

So as far as the bend, it's just bad enough that I can see a very slight deflection on the diameter of the tire as it goes by when I have it in gear. Very slight.

Here is a picture of the bend:

I'm sure it could be fixed. BTW I got the PO to refund me 100.00 on the cost (I told him it would cost about 200 to replace the wheel which I think may be a little low?) He split the cost with me. Better than a sharp stick in the eye for sure. I originally paid 1600.00 for the bike which I thought was reasonable for sure. (So I'm down to 1500.00 but will need to do something about the wheel of course).

    Happy New Year!

I bent my front wheel on my '14 when I hit a deep pot hole at slow speed, took the wheel to a shop that specialzed in repairing cast auto wheels and they fixed it no problem, even installed new tire and balanced all for $100!

Yours looks a lttle more severe than mine, but worth checking with wheel expert.

    Found my picture:[IMG]

Yes. Yours is bent worse than mine was. I would fix or repair. It may run fine right now but hit a bump on a corner and you may experience sudden air loss which could be fatal. But I would take it into a wheel specialist like Master A. says first. It could be fixable far cheaper than purchasing another wheel. Doesn't cost anything for an appraisal.

I beat a dent bigger than that out of my front wheel of my 6th gen but that one is not big enough to worry about unless the cosmetics hang you up.

Use heat and a big rubber mallet.

Outfits that work on big rig wheels can fix bike wheels too.

I've given away 5th gen wheels in the past. I've got one here in the UK you could have (but you'd have to come pick it up!) The point being, these wheels are plentiful and should be cheap...

    Ciao,

Cheap?? The cheapest I've found is 250.00 shipped (Member here, That was in good shape, eBay is the same or higher).
Shipping from the UK would be???

    Cheers,

wow, some of those repairs are pretty crazy. looks like it's worth finding a repair shop with something that minor, if they can fix a cast wheel that has actually ripped...

I have no idea! I try to avoid international shipping of things. With all the RC46 owners fitting 8-spokers, I'm surprised there aren't more offers.

    Ciao,
