The VFR800 that I now own came with an exhaust system that does away with the catalytic converter. I also have the stock system . What are the opinions on doing away with the converter ? Will the bike lose some of it's torque ? It does have a power commander installed.

A lot of VFR owners would rather have the cat-less headers not so much because there is no catalytic converter but because the cat-less headers have slightly larger diameter primaries (at least the 98-99 OEM) which usually translates into better performance. Being that you have the Power Commander I'd personally leave both installed. If you do decide to take off the cat-less headers, I call dibs!

Neither one is on right now. Just trying to sort the bike out. If I decide not to use the exhaust I will post it on here. I could not find a brand name on it.

Well if its a 2Bros or Erion Racing header, then you might have something worth keeping! In all honesty, those two brands of headers are made from "unobtainium" are worth quite a bit and I still call dibs!

I am thinking it's a Gen 5 mid pipe. It does have an HM number on it so it seems like it would be a Honda part. So Pete must have done some searching and found someone who used the Gen 5 pipe on the Gen 6. I am not sure this is pure speculation.

I can not profess to be an expert here but the pipe you show looks very similar to the one on my 2000 VFR with a minor difference. After searching and sourcing a replacement pipe for a friends 99 VFR800, we discovered that the pipe on my 2000 VFR is not stock. According to Honda, the pipe we got for my friends bike came from a 2000/2001 VFR. Mine is supposed to have a cat but it doesn't, and it has been fitted with o2 sensor bungs and has the sensors installed and wired. From your photos, I can't see any o2 sensor bungs on the pipe. Makes me wonder what I have installed on mine.

This pipe does not have any place for CO2 sensors. I see no reason for it not to fit any VFR800.

The 98-99 models didn't have a cat or O2 bungs and are usually used on later model VFRs in conjunction with a Power Commander as the PC has O2 sensor bypass resisters and the headers O2 sensors are not needed. I think this is the route your friend was going.

For those wanting to have a better flowing exhaust, these headers would be the way to go. For those wanting to utilize the O2 sensors on their headers, these would require adding O2 bungs on them, either way these are good headers and if you're not going to go with them, they would be worth it to some. So if you want to part with them, remember, I called dibs!

Okay I think I am going to use it. Thanks for all the great info. I am guessing that once I have the exhaust on I will have to program the Power Commander.

It would be a good idea to do that , if possible go find a reliable Dyno tuner to get the best possible tune for your VFR. .
