Okay so I've finally found a tank worth restoration --BUT--does NOT have a Gas Cap and keys.

    Honda says No Longer Available.

NO OEM ones to be found currently on FleaBay

A few Aftermarket items from China which THAY SAY will fit-But-- when I cross reference their suited applications they say CBR600 F2 and F3 but Partzillla says will NOT work.

    SOOoooooo my question is.

Do any of the Chinese ones fit?

    Here's a few links:

    This one says it fits

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-VFR-7...ash=item3386429f09:g:A-kAAOSwSv1XkM5z&vxp=mtr

or what looks to be the same in the USA (also likely Chinese)

This one says NO to fit but "looks" the same.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fuel-Cap-Ga...ash=item2ef67f7559:g:NMcAAOSwyZ5Uqjne&vxp=mtr

    Can anyone help with advice.

    OR

Possibly someone has a gas cap and key available for purchase?

Thank you for any / all help and input.

    Rick

I have a line on some but they are California only caps, be careful in your hunt that you don't wind up with the wrong one.

Do you have a photo of what the old tank and filler cap look like, from one that was on the bike to start with. Or did the bike not come with a tank?? I only ask because I have a parts (a 2000 VFR800) and from the looks of the filler caps in the links you added to your post, the one I have may fit. Here is a photo of the one I have available if you're interested, but I can't unfortunately say if it will fit your bike. I do have the key for the fuel cap, and the mounting bolts. The cap, as you may be able to tell, has been polished

don't quote me on this but I think the only diffence on these is some have a 6x1.0 mounting bolts and some have a 5x.8 bolt. from the ones I played with anyways.

I can imagine that the California Model is different (non venting to atmosphere) and have to admit I'd not considered that.

How would one tell the difference?

Bike came "tankless" and although I've been able to source a tank it did NOT come with gas cap or keys. SOooo am at a disadvantage to provide additional or accurate info. I DID buy a cap from E-Bay with the intention of disassembling it and having it re-keyed to the ignition key but early investigation reveals that will be a MAJOR PAIN to accomplish--plus the local locksmith wants $40+ to rekey. At that price I could gamble on a Chinese knock-off working and still be ahead of the game.

Does the length of the mounting bolt / assembly prevent mounting in the 1986 VFR tank due to interference from depth?

    Thank you.

Does that include the keys as well or should one factor in a locksmith charges for production of a suitable key?

    Thank You

damn not sure just sold a 88 last year that I never got around to restoring, never really looked at the cap that close. I know that the 93,97 and 02 caps are the same fit with different diameter bolts.

    For $142! Yikes.

    Sounds smart. :)

I'd like to replace my cap as well due to all the scratches and the fuel stains from fuel bubbling up through the key hole. Is that normal?

What I have done that is way cheaper is have one side of the key cut to one number and the other side cut to the other. The keys are only double sided so you don't have to put it in a certain way.

But that is if they are compatible letter styles.

There are letters and numbers stamped near the center of the cap on the inside. The last three are the key number, like "C15".
