The problem was definitely a blocked wax unit. I pulled it apart, cleaned the housing, reamed out the debris from holes with a drill bit (twisting using my fingers). Disconnected and cleaned the hoses. Replaced the O ring. Put it all back together, started her up, adjusted the fast idle and all is well, working perfectly.

It wasn't too difficult a job. I didn't want to get into fixing other things like replacing the water pump etc as parts take too long to arrive in this region, bike would be off the road too long. I've been aching to go for a ride. :)

The hardest part was reattaching the pipe and clip on the front of the air filter box, rubber flap and wiring is squashed up in there with the pipe...

Thanks OZ VFR for your advice. Cheers! It's time for a beer!

I went down to the garage and looked at all 3 bikes sitting in the corner all happily slumbering under their fuzzy blankets, awaiting the coming of good old Saint Nick, and the possible gifts of fine suspension and other components that may appear with the passing of the sleigh.

And THEN I opened the garage door and shoveled the 6 inches of fluffy white stuff off the 200ft driveway. SIGH!!

But all is not lost, for I have shiny parts in the tool room awaiting install. Once the weather warms just a tad. Brrrrr, it's cold out there.

    I feel for you guys.
It rarely gets below 59F here and it's mostly dry, and hovers around 90+ during the summer, so we never have to put bikes away.
But then again, we don't get to ski much unless we head south.
Most of my week revolves around my planing of a weekend ride all year.
Work all week, unwind on the weekend.

Today, well I just started "Jeni" up to let her get her fluids flowing and after warming up kept her revs up a bit to try to add power to the old battery. She has been on her center stand for 3 weeks now after I ran over a big ass something that put a 3-4mm hole in the back tire. My first flat in over 30yrs riding so it was a good experience to use the repair kit. I am also glad I bought 6 more canister along with the 2 provided.

I am afraid she is not content sitting next to the garbage can in the single car garage tightly packed by with my camping shit and my car. I walk out to garage everyday and see her face first thing, I know she is just pissed off as hell. She knows that I have a new pipe, Lens protectors, and a possible Tidy tail for her. She seems to know that I want to change her color and wheels and is giving me that "What I am not good enough for you the way I am?" ;-) knowing that I am going to give her a muffler reduction since it is to big to be happy with, but hopefully knows that it will give her a weight loss. I like my cans more like a handful rather than large and heavy to handle ones. ;-) I'm more of a LED eyes guy and a big rear tire kind of guy.;-)

Since the weather has been great, snow, I like snow to a point. But it got me thinking since it may be a bit before the VFR gets out, from the last time I fired off the VFR it sounded like the battery wasn't quite up to snuff , so yesterday went out and did a still voltage check, found it to be 12.3v, so hooked up the fancy new battery charger/tender and found the battery was at 60%, Guess it was a good thing to have double checked.

    Finished up modding airbox.
Took a before after pic of OEM air filter. Old one was so nazdee.

Froze my arse off. Air temp is 39°F and with cold front coming in it feels like 33°F. There was a casualty I blame on temps, working with no gloves, and those darned plastic clips.

This was indeed the only spot I found on rear tire.

Test rode moto to gym. All is great. Now time to warm up.

Please tell us the ar box mod isn't a second snorkel!

BTW, the mechanics hands will take a beating, bruised knuckles, cuts, scrapes and the occasional broken or smashed nail, so looks like you're gaining some real credibility!

That air cleaner is real nasty--- have a K&N since buying my bow 7 years ago and absolutely no complaints. Get those surgical gloves when wrenching, just may help. Let me know so I can use them in CO

It's not only a 2nd snorkel, but extended and fanned at the ends to get all the air possible. +20hp

Yep, imma roughed up. Got some cuts also to go with my splinters from rope climbing without gloves last night. Lolzzz

I'll let you know. Sooooo excited you be right next door soon! I have a Spot I can use, but after looking into devices more, I'm wanting to try and get ahold of an InReach. Fleabays hopefully.

Rode 90 quick twisty miles. The bike LOVED the cool weather (50) and real gas.

I see, wow, just because everything is frozen! Do you have to drive cars with snow chains or do the roads get cleared?

I refuse to not ride because of snow, so I went to Malibu again! Why? Because there's no snow in the BU!

Yeah I know, I am a$$, but I have regrets!

After getting a chance to ride around last Sunday under clear, sunny skies and 40 deg F temps, I bought a 3A Dellran Battery Tender this past week @ Costco for $29.99 ($39.99 - $10 instant rebate :smile-new:), and hooked it up today. I also covered it since I probably won't get a chance to ride again until after the New Year.

    Nice work!

The VFR will perform a whole lot better now even without air box mod, with the new filter. It's nasty. Don't know what's worse, filter or nail.
    ;-)

I've thought of doing a mod on the air intake, installing a coarse gauze, to stop mice, bush rats making a nest in there. They've tried before! It's a pain having the check it before a ride if the VFR has been sitting a while. Anyone else have this problem?

Rodents in the air Box?! Oh yeah, plenty of post on here about that subject. Particularly from those who have to store during the winter months. Long periods between use allows these guys time to nest up and have a long winters nap.

Thanks, I'll have a browse to see how others have prevented the rascals for nesting in there. My bike is parked in a farm shed, with hay and other feeds, so it's usually a nest of hay in the box.

it really does not take that much time in some areas, one week and they can get into the atv, little bastages, only reason I let the neighbors cat chill on the seat, they don't poke holes in it, and I don't have any rodents :) plus I don't have to feed them.
