How do yall beat this cold and press on the miles anyway?
My secret weapon is my heated jacket..i love it
Balaclava and overalls if its really cold, icon stryker vest field armor for a lil protection

 

Layer up and go.

 

Normally I layer up but also have electric gear when it gets below the 30F.

 

The best train of thought to follow is to keep the heat you have close to your body. I have Gerbings heated jacket liner, pant liner and insoles that all operate independent of each other for the most part with two variable temp switches. The set is wired direct to the battery of the bike and easily plugs and unplugs.

But. If you have very porous jackets or seams on these jackets where the air readily passes through, then all that heat you make just blows away. You will get some benefit from it, but very inefficient.

It is surprising how much benefit you will get from a cheap rain suit. Not only are they great for keeping you dry, but they also trap you body heat inside next to your body. Temperatures have to get quite cold before you will need additional applied heat.

I have ridden several times in temperatures at -10C (14F) coming home from work at 03:00 and for an hour on the freeway. I found that all I needed was to set the controls at the half way point and was toasty warm, except for my forehead. Fingertips got cold as well but I did not have the glove liners which Gerbings also have.

No. But you can easily see them by going to the Gerbings website. They are probably the most popular heat gear company over here in N America at least. Their after-sale service is far superior to most other companies I have dealt with. They covered a failure in one of my insoles a couple years after the warranty was off. I was not even looking for them to cover the issue, I was just making a suggestion for improvement in the type of wire they used to feed the insole. They sent me a new set of insoles. Same wire so I made an alternative way of installing them in my boots.

I saw this guy the other day make his own heated vest from taking apart a heated seat cushion for the car and using the heated elements out of it. Very intriguing idea since the controller and wiring are already set up for 12V system. I found one for around 13 bucks that controller has the off/llow/high switch instead of his on/off only. I know it would not be as good as the real thing but I like trying DIY stuff just to see if I can do it and for 13 bucks (price of one of those) doesn't sound like you can lose much just trying. Plus, this is Texas and we don't have near as many real cold days that you fellers have up North.

Well, now there's snow I can't really ride the bike ... but I can ride the snowmobile and the same principals apply. It's not different than snowboarding as well.

I do ride the bike if the roads are clear for short runs in the winter occasionally, but they are few and far between.

Secret? No secret.

Wear layers, have heated grips, have heated jacket liner, and wear something to keep the wind off of you (I wear my snowmobile pants/bib).

 

I use to ride in the winter, but that was a 600 not the heavy vfr 800 beast-no way to ride that like my 600 could-Yamaha R6 with 4 carb-great bike but I ride it with a slightly bent frame

 

It dosent snow much here, dont have access to much snow gear tho that may be something to look into...any recommended brands?

Different combinations of base layers on top, bicycle pants under my jeans riding pants. Only one time riding below 30F I've run out of base layers and end up using trash bags and newspaper given at the gas station.

 

Pretty awesome. Don't see that here.

 

It was 85 here yesterday, going to plummet down to 65 with a cold front this weekend.

 

36 degrees here right now and low of 32 tonight and then cold front moves out. High of 50 for Sat and 70 for Sun. Turn on the heat baby!
