You didn't have to tell anyone this. Your member details show that you have a beamer so we all already knew that. But. I don't think you are an asshole. Owning a VFR somewhat cancelled out the beamer.

Three choruses of Kumbiya later, the dude at the pump cons our hero into loaning him five pesos then steals his radar detector off his BMW.

Parking on the sidewalk, or somewhere else other than a parking spot, is very common in SoCal. I have no problem with this if done with consideration. By that I mean, when you park have the bike out of the way of pedestrian access as much as possible. People in SoCal (and other places) many times prefer this, because it means it opens up another parking spot for a car. I have heard many a person mumble that I am talking up a whole parking spot for my small bike. Someone on here even had a guy moving their bike to park their car in the spot.

All that said, I park out of the way in various non-parking spot locations regularly. Sidewalks, next to buildings out of the way. Never an issue. Depends on the city and state though, but most large SoCal cities are cool with it. I should add, most of the places are private businesses. I would never park on a busy sidewalk, say, in downtown LA or SF.

Parking on the stripes is no different than taking up a full HC parking spot IMO. It may even leave an extra spot without problems if one backs in or needs only the opposite side to use to get out of their vehicle.

    Somebody jumping to conclusions?

I am special. I can and do park in those "Handy Cap" spots with my motorcycle. That's because I have one of those blue tags with a wheel chair on it that says "Handy Cap". Just because I can ride a bike doesn't mean my health problem gets better and I don't need to park close. I still have a hard time on any kind of long distance walking because of a health problem this year that leaves me breathless, literally.

Now if the biker didn't have a HC tag then I say string the bastard up............................

I'm very relieved...somewhat. BMW makes good bikes BTW. I sold them and the VFR's when I got tired of multiple bike syndrome. I do know how to park a bike though.

Leaving a handicap tag on a bike in most places will result in a bike without a handicap tag..Especially around " The People of Wal*Mart" and those who voted for The Donald..

Some clarification if you please... Parking on the stripes is exactly like taking up a handicap space. The striped area is part of the handicap zone for van access for folks in wheelchairs or who rely on lifts installed in the vans.

Stringing up The Donald is not PC... Given enough time he will be "hoisted by his own petard". The first guy to say this may not have been Hamlet. IMO, it could have been one of those old Chinese guys who invented gunpowder.

No one is an arsehole here.
Maybe just a hole that needs love.

From experience with needing to load and unload wheelchairs in cars and motorized vans, it's just annoying that those hashed spaces are full at times.
Just all I'm sayin'. Peeps may not think anyone will need that space, especially late at night at a slow business time, but no one can ever know who will pull up that do need it.

Last summer I met my wife at a shopping center; she drove, I rode in on the VFR.

It was later in the evening, and the lot was far from full. Many places to park, not much of a walk.
Time to leave, we're standing there chatting, and a small SUV pulls into a HC spot nearby.
Out pops two teenage girls, who bounce into the nearby store. I walked around and got a look... No HC plate, no placard. But what WAS hanging in the interior was a local high school jacket, for the "Cheer" team. Geez. The driver had parked a little crooked, and the car did have a little "custom bodywork", which I think is usually an indicator of diminished driving skills in general. Parking lot badges, most likely.
Anyway, I decided to use the phone and take a couple of shots, to be sending to a friend, so we can share a laugh.
Out of the store come Missy 1 and Missy 2. The driver inquires why I am taking a photo of her car....

Gee, thanks for the opening. So, I proceed to tell her what the spot she parked in is for, and she pulls what looks like a real rear view mirror hanging tag from the console.
Wrong move, Missy. They did actually listen while I explained that just because her grandmother needed that, it was not hers to use. Then I allowed as though among everyone within 1/4 mile of where we were standing, the two of them were likely to be the most fit of any of the humans. That, I said, was my guess, being that the jacket indicated the Cheer squad, and how good a shape it would require participants to be in. I opined that such a spot often comes with a certain status among peers, earned through skill and practice.
The closer: I told them that if they really wanted to be important, then they should think twice about taking something that was not deserved, such as the parking spot. Leaving those for people who really needed them is common courtesy, while Bogarting one indicates a lack of respect and a sense of entitlement, neither of which are positive traits expected of leaders. I explained that even though I was 65, it wasn't hard for me to walk an extra 50 feet, and that I'd walk from the outer lot before I parked in any of the reserved spots.

Did it sink in? How the hell would I know?
But maybe, just maybe, one time, one of them will think twice, and maybe do the right thing.

Dang, I've turned into my Father/Uncle/Wife's Uncle.

Well done 2000. Most people kick themselves for not figuring out what to say,
until they're on the way home.

I don't think that bike in the picture is a Harley. I think it is a Honda Magna

I was thinking this as well ... has the right profile for a Magna.

    I used to own a 1982 Honda Magna V45 (VF750C) ... there's a photo of it in my gallery.

Selfish, stupid human behavior will never ever go away. Build more prisons and make them a profit center I say. One state's prisons make a profit and is totally self-sustaining. You go there and you WORK. What a novel concept.

Following right along, my suggestion would be to put these two girls in the joint. Every prison needs cheerleaders IMO.

It's one thing to hassle a couple of teenage girls with a lecture and a video cam. One might think twice or if good sense prevails, not to hassle some dude who might just be in the mood for some ass whipping.

I have a handicapped friend (a Vietnam veteran) who has plates for his cars and bikes. He tends to park like that to give people with a car a chance to still use those spaces if need be.
