I'd be paranoid that somebody would whack my bike (accidentally or on purpose) with their crutch, wheelchair, or walker etc...

I don't know...this just isn't cool. I've taken care of people with disabilities most of my life (friends, volunteering, students, my brother).

It sux having to deal with instances like this, because many times spaces are full and you have people doing that. Then they can't park because they can't get out. Even more, it seems to show lack of respect.

I broke my leg three years ago and had a temporary disabled permit and the thing that bugged me the most was when people who seemed perfectly ambulatory would hop out of their cars while parked in the disabled spots while I had to crutch my ass across the parking lot cuz there weren't enough spots. Yeah they had permits too but it seems like they didn't really need them - maybe they had some hidden infirmity but I always suspected they had just gone doctor shopping for a permit.

I hear ya. One of my pet peeves when I did the deed. But I have also found that even people wo rightfully have those permits, badly abuse that privilege. When a handicapped person parks their car in a handicapped spot and sits there in that car while their perfectly able bodied passenger goes shopping, then that is abuse. When the spouse of a handicapped person takes their car shopping and uses the spaces, that's abuse. When a handicapped person lends out their permit, that's abuse.

My now dead mother used crutches and scooters to get around for many of her last years. One time I was taking her to the local legion for a refreshment and she told me to park in the handicapped parking. I suggested I would let her out there, get her inside then park in a normal spot leaving the handicapped spot for someone who may be more in need. After that, she never questioned me the very few times I was able to drive here anywhere. But none of this excuses that fucking idiot on the bike. Unless of course, he/she has a handicapped decal for the bike. That is good possibility. Think severe asthmatics as an example. They can still ride but may need the benefit of a handicapped spot.

The worse fucking excuse I used to hear? "I'm just going to be a minute." My response/ "That;s fine. It only takes a mimute for me to prepare the coupon

I agree that there are many people who have used those spots when they seemingly didn't need to....Or when they could have made different arrangements for picking up or dropping off others. They just give those who really need it a bad reputation.

In some states there are two types of handicapped parking. The main type is for general access, the second is like what AM has shown which is much wider and is for vans with side access and many times lifts for those folks that are wheelchair bound. Lots of difference in fines too at least here in Oregon.

I see both cars and bikes in both types. The cars vary but the bikes most likely to be in those spots are Harleys.

The max fine can be as much as 720 pesos. That's a shitload of money that could be spent on a farkle or two from a Harley Botique. Right now HD is running a special on genuine HD black plastic weatherproof 48" fringed bar ends. Buy one for 99 pesos and the other one is half price. Great stocking stuffers.
    **********************************************************************************************************************************************************************

To qualify for a disability parking plates or placards (sometimes referred to as a “handicapped sticker”) in Oregon, the applicant must meet one of the conditions described below and must obtain a licensed physician’s certification prior to the initial issuance of disability access placards. *Program Disabled Person Parking Permit -- A program permit is valid for 8 years from issuance.
*Foreign Disabled Person Parking Permit -- A foreign visitor permit is valid for 30 days from issuance

I don't get why some folks on MC's think they can park anywhere. The handicap spot is a great example of an idiot that thinks they are special. But have have seen others park on sidewalks next to the front doors of the local grocery store, at the liquor store, restaurants, etc. It makes no sense and give all other MC riders a bad name. Just because the bike fits you don't need to park it there.

Give that guy a dunce hat and send them to the corner of the room.

The biker is a selfish 'hole. Society seems to feed selfishness more and more. It's all about "me" and while you're at it, you MUST respect my political beliefs and if not, you're a racist no matter what the subject. I get so sick of that mentality and political correctness used as a tool to put other people down.

Okay so I'm an asshole. But there's an over abundance of handicap spots here. It's just another example of government overreach.

Understood. But I will support those far before I will support those expectant mothers or new mothers spots. Reasonable exercise is what is failing us these days from a health point of view. Fuck. We are now seeing spots set aside for those people who drive electric cars. I mean. WTF here.

There may seem to be an increase in the number of spots showing up out there our population base has increased probably the same amount. Then there are the increased in numbers of those who have lost their limbs in the last decade or so who due to their service may be in need of such parking spots.

I've seen a police Sgt park his police hog on a sidewalk. Asshole. I took great pleasure in telling him so. Made sure he was aware of my background before I suggested if he parked his bike out in the lot, where mine was parked, he may not have been fatter than me.

    That went over well.

The one that is really funny is the dude who comes oot and his car is covered in sticky notes. Next in line are the "excuses" including the worst one that " I just need to park there for a minute" and the one where the Chinese dude pulls the race card out of his hat.

While true that handicap parking is being overused by some, the parking slots are near the entrance to the various stores and other facilities for a reason. Watch sometime how long it takes for someone who is wheelchair bound to get unloaded from their vehicle. Then imagine the process in shit weather.

Tags for the various types of handicap parking need to be displayed. Secondarily, the vehicles need to be locked. Tags are worth bucks to thieves. Tags are also easily duped using a DSLR camera and having a print made at places like Wal*Mart. Same thing with license plates and stickers indicating current registration. This can also be done on a high quality color copier.

I can't think of a good reason why for some folks the word "handicapped" is soooo fucking offensive. It's a condition, not a political statement or a derogatory term to diminish the worth of someone. Call it what it is.

Some handicap tags are temporary. In some places although this may have changed, a handicap tag in the City of Long Beach would allow the bearer to park at a meter at no charge.

I'm an asshole. There, if, for any reason, someone wants to call me an asshole, it's already been done. Beat you to it.

I don't like people with stupid agendas or pushy personal agendas. Just be a human being and leave your agenda at home. I meet the nicest people anywhere. Last one I met was while filling up my car at a slow pump. Guy across from me and I started talking and met a good guy. Like that old worn out phrase goes.....can't fix stupid. They're breeding too fast. ......
