I see that you are relying on American movies for your observations on what goes on in the US. Many of the laundry/dry cleaners are now owned and operated here on the West Coast by Korean immigrants. All the old Chinese guys have restaurants. Everyone knows that.

 

I don't know what a third generation cowl is. Mine is for my 1991 VFRF.
