If voting really makes a difference, they would not allow it.
I would love to get an up or down vote whether corporations should have the same rights as human citizens.
Or whether corporations should have lower tax rate than human citizens.

You'll have to wait for The Donald to be inaugurated. He will fix these problems right off the bat. No need to vote anymore either. He will fix that too. Trust in The Donald.

Do any of you fucking experts wonder how it would be if the US didn't step up to the fucking plate when the shit hits the fan?

I think instead of The Donald our dictator for life might be a dude named Joe Hitler.

Sorry aboot the mixed metaphor. We are in deep shit.

Yes, I was aware of the incident. Our media generally keeps a lid on military screw ups because it is hard to define a clear good guy/bad guy narrative. It was a horrible mistake. I am sure that he military didn't shoot up a British convoy because they hate Brits.

Something I have always thought, that war and the making of war is dangerous business. Even handling live ordnance can get you killed or serious injured. How many military personnel die every year in training or just in transport accidents?

A single incident during war is not what I would call enough of a data set to make a definitive judgement on an entire country. Friendly fire incidents happen more frequently during battle than you think, however, this one incident just happens to fit your narrative. It's not that America thinks it's the world police, it's that a vast majority of the world expect it to be that way.

Of course the incident fits, why I used it.
The point is not about the errors made, it's about how America then treated its oldest and strongest ally during the investigation and how it was virtually unknown about in the states.

No state, not the US and not Great Britain, wants to be humiliated and they will take pains not to show it. There is another reason. Mistakes in warfare are tragic but they can also be used by an enemy for propaganda purposes. I am sure that there was much made of this indecent in private diplomatic channels that was not made public.

People in the US are generally more worried about family foundations, private email servers, and the fact that there are a couple hispanics moving into their neighborhood. Even if the media was to present the story, very few people here would even pay attention. The US isn't exactly in the top 20 countries for education.....

There was an old saying years ago from WW2, can't remember how it went but something like this, when the Jerries started shelling the Brits had to duck, when the Brits started shelling the Jerries had to duck, but when the Yanks started shelling everybody had to get the fuck out of there

That sounds right. It's a running theme in the movie Kelly's Heros.

Years ago, when I was a mechanic I had a Moto Guzzi customer named Jack Hatfield. He was a personable chap in his late 70s. He told me about his experiences landing somewhere in Italy and walking to Germany because, as he put it, "no one would give him a ride." He said at any given moment (and this is the American army mind you) two guys would be looting, two guys would be drunk and the rest would be trying not to get killed. We have John Wayne to thank for a lot of our American perceptions. For every story of bravery and heroism there are multiple accounts of incompetence and cowardice. War is hell. War sucks.

As Big Joe (Telly Savalas) says "We're not worried about the German army, we've got enough troubles of our own. To the right General Patton, to the left the British Army, to the rear our own goddamn artillery, and besides all that it's raining. And the only good thing to say about the weather: it keeps our air corps from blowing us all to Hell because its too lousy to fly. . ."

If I stated, and I didn't, that America is the only good guy in the world, that is ridiculous. If you think America looks after only it's own interests, you need to do a little research. America gives away more help and aid than any country on earth ever has, period. Maybe that's partially why our debt is over 20 trillion. Let's just stay in reality. America has it's faults but what other country can say it progressed from nothing to a world "power" in a little over 200 years? No need to make a pissing contest over this kind of thing. Over and out. Obviously, there is nothing good going to come out of this thread.

Kelly's Heroes, inspired casting of Donald Sutherland.
Anyone remember the tv series Hogan's heroes?
