A couple of years ago I took my kids canyoning, it involves climbing down a creek into a river that flows through a gorge, 30m cliffs on both sides in places you can touch both sides, it sometimes opens up for a bit then closes again.
You get on an inflatable lilo and let the current take you, once you are in, there is no way out for about 4hrs.
As we were floating with the current in the beautiful crystal clear water, I saw a log that had fallen across the river up ahead, there was enough room that if you laid flat with your head on its side you could slide under it.
As I got closer I could see the log was covered with huge river spiders, some the size of dinner plates.
Don't know what these spiders are called, but I've only ever see them in rivers, mostly sitting on rocks sticking out of the water in the middle of the river, I've always wandered how the hell they got there.
Anyway, I said nothing to not scare my kids and slid under the log, my daughter was next.
I'm sure her scream was heard from the international space station.

What that little fella AM ? Just a tiddler, you should see the ones that crawl out of the Uranium mines up North. They're a magnificent sight to see, galloping across the flood plains of Kakadu at dusk with a pale blue glow to light their way in the gloaming and dragging down any slow moving water buffalo. The water buffalo are a feral pest and do a lot of damage, so the Huntsman spiders do a valuable environmental service by taking them out.

The correlation is at best homophonic but one could get his dick slammed in the hood of either car. Yep, a painful example for sure.

The 550 was the roadster that James Dean owned. The pic is a replicar. Usually VW powered.

The Speedster, aka The Bathtub was a true roadster also. MSRP was probably given in Marks at the time. FOB dealer price shows a new 1955 Speedster was in the range of $2,995 USD. Similarly, dealer asking price FOB NY for a MB 300SL "Gull Wing" was aboot 6 K.

Another pricy car at the time was the 1955 Lincoln Continental.

On a trip with my wife before marriage to far North Queensland and the gulf country from central NSW, we did 11000kms in 4 weeks.
In that time we hit 2 emus, a dingo, coped an eagle in the middle of our windscreen at 140km/h, numerous rabbits, 1 goanna and 3 kangaroos. The first one on the first night of the trip.
And by the way, the above video is only a wallaby, kangaroos are bigger, specially the red ones, they can be 6 foot tall.
The car was spotless when we left, needless to say it wasn't when we got back.
Drought was the main culprit, it brings the animals to the side of the road as moisture from the road makes grass grow on the edges.
