Hey Geys, new here so I have a question that I hope is pertinent.

I ( my son & I) just got a project bike, that we plan on sprucing up this winter.
6th gen, 2005 with 20k km on the clock.

First thing after purchase I did was I changed the oil & filter.
I took it out today, 2nd time on the bike, and noticed that if I gently come up to the 7k rpm mark, I feel the vtek (2nd valve open) kick in.

What I was surprised to whiteness was a very slight hesitation before the extra power curve.
    Is this normal?

If I hit the 7k point, hard, full throttle, I don't notice it, or if I hit it in 1st or 2nd gear I also don't notice it.

In 4th creeping up to it seems most noticeable.

Is this something I should investigate further?

I balanced my starter valves and also removed my PAIR valve, this helped. Fresh plugs, a professional injector cleaning helped too. Make sure you have no vacuum leaks. Try Redline Fuel Injector cleaner also. Works very well. Make certain the air filter is clean too. Take out all slack in your throttle by adjusting it.

Also, the hesitation and surging is normal as the computer is trying it's best to run lean. PC V will probably help, with a dyno tune. They all do it. https://www.google.com/search?q=dyn...=Uu8vWImCL-Tf0gKN1YeoBw#imgrc=_Pu-pBnqAHdawM:

Nope. Your VTEC system is working properly Papcan.

The switch-over point from 2 valve to 4 valve mode is controlled by the ECU which takes into consideration engine oil pressure, engine temp, engine speed, throttle position, and engine load.

My '03 works exactly the same way as your '05. VTEC transition is barely noticeable in 1st & 2nd gears, but creep the revs up slowly in the higher gears to the switch-over point and a small hesitation can be felt. Full throttle the engine past the switch-over point in the higher gears however and no hesitation at all is felt.

I think engine load and throttle position at the time of valve switch-over are probably the two biggest determining factors in whether or not you're going to feel any hesitation during the 2 valve/4 valve mode transition.

I owned a 6th gen briefly, an '05 with low mileage. It was mechanically sound and it did the same thing.

    Totally normal.
It sucks, but it's totally normal.
