I got a great deal on my 2014 VFR800F, but was slightly annoyed when I got it to the hotel from the dealership and noticed it had no center stand.

Has anyone added a center stand to a base model 8th gen? Please let me know if you have the part numbers and the cost involved.

I did try a search so sorry if this topic was covered already.

Check Ron ayres for part numbers. Think you may be able to get it as a kit in US. As rest of the world gets it as standard.

    Pretty easy to install.

Really? I looked at the 9 pages of installation instructions (see my post above) and figure it would take me at least 18 hours at 1 hour per page to get it installed and reverse the steps to put everything back together - lol.

I've heard of some decent horror stories here, Yes simple, but yet not so easy. might be ok since you have a new bike, but don't be surprised if it ain't what it seems.

Ok easy for some. Please don't look at the lock barrel installation ones then.

I looked at the installation instructions, saw that you had to drop the exhaust system, and arranged for the dealer to install mine. The labor wasn't cheap, but the centerstand was worth every penny.

I tackled this job 2 months after getting my bike. It was a full day of getting to know my bike. I installed a center stand, t-Rex frame sliders, 12 volt socket, power bronze wind screen & oil/filter change. The biggest job by far was the "center stand". There is 1 bolt on the right side that requires you to drop the exhaust system to install it; hence the 9 pages of instructions. It was aggravating to realize all this work was for this one bolt. Honda must really want that bolt installed because they made it left-hand threaded; You could cut it off but that would compromise it's structural integrity. The instructions were easy to follow.
It was a good leisurely day (5-6 hrs) getting to know my bike. The Abba stand was perfect for the task!

Wow! Will a 6th Gen stand fit the 8th? I ask because I have a 2003 center stand...

Mine was the cheapest, easiest install I ever tackled. I had the dealer do it at no cost to me for either materials or labor. It was part of the deal.

Had I known I would end up with front and rear Pit Bulll stands, I don't think I would have had a center stand installed. No real need for it now.

Do you remember how many hours of labor your dealership charged to install it?

I was amazed to see the instructions were 9 pages long - I always assumed it was a quick and easy-peasy thing to install until I saw them - what was Honda thinking with the one freaking bolt?

    Yeah agreed
I read somewhere about cutting/shortening the bolt; I personally wouldn't. A shorter bolt may stress or crack the casing and that's a chance I wasn't willing to take. Those Honda boys are a little smarter than me so I bit the bullet.
Like I said it was a good day getting to know my bike.

Hey gator, I did not install the center stand I bought myself. I had the dealer do it. I do not have the room to get a lift to do it myself and the cost was almost as much. My dealer did for .5 hours because they did not look at the spec time of 1.4 hrs. At $85 a shop hr that's about a $120-130 to install. FYI You have to drop the exhaust that is the extra time.

Side note on this if you did not see my post on "What did you do to your VFR today" I had a hard time getting the bike on the center stand after a flat tire. I was pissed that I took off the grab bars because I felt I had nothing to help me get it up. I am 220lbs and 5'9" and struggled and almost dropped it on the side of the road. The incline was flat so I was frustrated. I'm thinking of pulling it off because it adds weight and I don't want the grab bars on. My 2005 Gpz 1100 was so much easier to get in up on center. I think that the placement of the stand is not dead center or this bike is a heavy bitch (it is) but I'm still pissy about the issue and the cost to have it!

By the way my dealer wanted 4 hrs labor @ $100 an hour plus the stand cost.

Fuck that. Like I just posted, I was quoted low without the head mechanic looking at the Honda bullshit. I ended up paying for .5 hrs but when I picked it up he let me know that the Honda book quotes 1.4 hrs. Fuck them! see my above post. I would get a after market lift for the bike to do maintenance If I had the room for it in a single garage with the bike and my car.

The_Head did you look at the posts following yet. Check with your dealer. Mine quoted 1.4 hours and some said they where quoted 4 hrs. Ask first and tell your dealer that you where quoted 1 hour or slighty more. Call Rodgers and ask them. I paid $75 for the stand and only $50 to install. But at 1.4 hours that would have been about $130 + 75 = 215 for mine.

Do those pitbull stands fit in a tankbag when out on the road? That would be handy IMO. Or maybe two sets. On set for the garage and one for on the road. I always thought that centerstands were for wusses anyway.

The reason they are that long is because it is a step by step idiots guide. Saves the comeback when someone breaks something by not taking it apart in the correct sequence. Reason for the left hand thread would be, for example, both bolts weren't tightened correctly one would stay in if the other worked its way out.
