If your bike had more than 1.5 gallons of Chevron with Techron gas in it, he wouldn't have been able to ride it out of the parking lot. I think he is in the clear.

Maybe he could be a Russian astronaut? Send those cats in a space like they did those monkeys?

Hey guys. Get the abus disc lock and the choker chain that goes with it. I have it. And if im staying overnight where my vfr is vulnerable. I use it. Chained to a pole or sign or even another bike. Very secure and hard to crack. Just one more step for the bad guys to get past.

Chains are a good 1st line of defense. Even the best are easily cut but the sound is not as easy to cover up.

That in combination with the disc lock. Easy to cut chain. But not so easy to cut or pick disc lock. So thats 2 huge deterrents.

The disk lock will not prevent it being thrown into a van, takes about 5 seconds and its gone. The only thing you can hope for is the sound of the chain being cut.

One of the disk locks with an alarm might help....

I was just thinking this. Regardless, no matter what deterrent you put on, if someone wants it bad enough - they'll find a way to take it.

Yeah if they really want it bad they will probably get it. But you can make it so that most fucking thieves will pass. Making layers of deterrents can take up more time than they want. Alarm, multiple chains, disk lock and an often overlooked one.... a simple bike cover with a lock.

Safeguards like disc locks and the various cable locks are deterrents for sure. Both or in combination will slow the amateurs down or actually prevent them from taking a bike. The pros who know all the tricks are another matter. Gotta go with Gman on this one. If the pros want a bike it's gone..

The out of sight out of mind thing works well with a little foresight applied. If doing the motel thing is on the agenda, a pre-registration for ground level room should work for all but Harleys taking bulk and leakage into consideration (spots on sheets included. We know how they are) The high ticket motels on just off most slabs are built with economy in mind for the construction. Some just off the slab access a couple of blocks away, many times are older and have garages attached or available. Check in and check out at motels is cut and dried for the motels. Ask...

Another is hotels. They many times have parking garages that at least keep bikes and cars out of sight.

All of the above is not 100% accurate but a hell of a lot better than losing a bike for the nit-pickers.

    UPDATE:

The good news - it now is certain the VFR was not started by the thieves, although they tried; the VFR started right up with a jury-rigged wiring and a new main fuse; battery is fully charged; the Geico insurance adjuster accurately determined the value of the repairs; I am told I will be receiving the insurance payment in the next 10 days.

    There is NO BAD NEWS!
