Nothing like "In a recent study" to make something legit. Right up there with "Well" and "It was a dark and stormy night."

"From Consumer Reports" pretty much sums up the lack of value in the study. I'll take my experience over ABS on a bike any day. Everyone has an opinion.

Experience coupled with ABS is even more effective at keeping a rider out of trouble.

It might not have so much to do with the lack of ABS that makes those cars less likely to be in accidents. Could be that the majority of those cars are simply older vehicles, driven by (in general) specific demographics of people who are less likely to get into accidents.

I see a difference between car and motorcycle ownership in that it seems like a lot of motorcyclists seem to think a non-abs motorcycle is a badge of honor, something I don't often hear with cars. You often hear about car enthusiasts talking down about TCS or SCS. But ABS...? not so much in my opinion, it's just not a feature anyone in their right mind would turn down.

Not that I have an ABS bike :witless:

ABS on a car qualifies for a reduction in premiums with many of the insurers.

That accident made national news, was eating with coworker and mentioned news about doode who thought he was going to be dead, and his own last rights on his phone. Coworker said he heard it on the news, i was like "damn."

Only stating a fact-ever ride a over weight bike around a curve-not too good is it-especially a BMW loaded up brakes might work-might not too.

Not on new cars. Try to find a new car without ABS. The National Insurance Institute never did endorse ABS brakes. Cars old enough to not have ABS are cheap to insure anyway because their book value is low due to age.

I can't argue with that. I could, but in this case, it's better to save the bandwidth.

No ABS on my 96 Jeep. Got ABS on 01 ford and its :bs: abs lightd come on at 100mph and then go off, no fault codes stored, go to the partd store and price the sensors though. More crap to bleed you dry. My jeep was almost crushed with that bs "cash for clunkers" thankfully my wife was in germany when they did that chit :loco: can you tell i dont want/need that stuff on my motorcycles :peace:

I had a 96 Ford Explorer. It had ABS brakes. No ABS on my bikes since it wasn't available.. fancy that! ABS on my 2004 Impala and there is a discount as there was a discount on the Explorer. If I had a bike with ABS, I'd ask my bike insurer about a discount. The sure as hell are not going to move on anything like that on their own..

No ABS brakes on my old Mercedes either. (1966)

I have ridden a few ABS equipped bikes but have not done a "panic" stop which I think is grounds for saying or thinking unless a real panic stop has been experienced, all there is to go on is anecdotal. The object is to get the bloody vehicle either slowed or stopped to prevent becoming another statistic and a home in that great MC in the sky. Or even where harleydoods go.

In the car market your screwed basically, you have to get ABS, no choice. Matter of fact, I think that you have to have tyre pressure monitors on the wheels manditory. The cars they sell in Europe dont have this chit, I understand that the current Kawi Concours has some teething problems with the tpms that they use. You know they cost around $100 a pop and you have to have the dealer do some smoke and mirror crap with them car/or bike.

I used to ride hondas with linked brakes (their car think applied to bikes) some had abs too I am sure. I used to take certain liberties that I wouldnt/dont with my own personal bikes. Road racing tought me how to trust brakes and tyres anyway, I used to do some "hail-mary" stops on some trusted tarmac that was clean and green and free from traffic. The fooked up thing was that I was getting the rear tyre to chirp consistenly on hard (so-called) panic stops when I wasnt even touching the rear brake. WTF??? You can keep all that crap.

Last story, I was working on K bike - k75? Any, it had this old abs unit (you know the bikes that would flash ABS lights and chit) any I had to remove this unit, was a FAG what ever that meant, what a disaster, I was thanking someone from above when all those crappy old lines where re-attatched to the "block" and there were no leaks of fault codes on the bike. What a losing propostion.

Co-worker has a current GS model whose ABS uint when down, the dealer wanted something like $3000 to replace it but told customer that he could ship the "block" to Idaho, and there was a company there that could repair it. So, off it went to potatoe land to be repaired and re-installed by sed-dealer. I think it was a happy ending to the story. TMI i know,,sorry for sharing :loco:
I rebuilt all the brake systems on my MACH 1s and was upset twice, I got the wrong re-build kit for the rear caliper from K&L, they stood by it and sent the correct one. Other one was the official OEM honda re-build kit for my brake cylinder gave up after two years, so I decided to go with a K&L. Anywho Have a swelll DAy

The insurance companies who want to sell product in the states have to go through an insurance commission or commissioner. Some don't make the cut. GMAC got the boot in Oregon. Of course GMAC didn't tell me anything except my premium had doubled because I moved from Washington to Oregon. Their answer was basically tough. Then ya got agents who come on with the "we are going to save you many pesos" sales pitch and somehow that never seems to be the case.

The name of the game is drain the customer. If anybody thinks these corporations give a shit aboot you me your SO and gits, your bike, dog, cat or goldfish, it ain't true..

Give em half a chance and they will grab ya by the .......!

The second vid was very telling also. I detected no agenda to sell something other than the obvious benefits of the linked system. Added to the test was it was done in the wet..

Interesting how 3 different riders have such a wide range of stopping distances with ABS. I would think they would be closer.
