Putting a 190 on the rear. . .

Got a set of Dunlop Qualifiers for next to nothing but the rear is a 190. Anything I should expect when I mount them?? Thanks - Moto

 

Had a Bridgestone 190 on the rear up until recently (was worn down). When I replaced it with a Pilot Road 2 180 noticed the bike appeared to be more nimble in turns and felt lighter and a bit easier to flick around. Mind you was a bit disconcerting at first as the 190 gave a more solid feel, so when the 180 was installed it felt as though I had less control (which I didn't).

Yea. Took it for it's maiden 190 ride and didn't really notice anything other than the tire did look pretty large. . ha ha. Looks cool though. I am off for a nice 700+ mile ride through the gorgeous, and curvy Colorado Rockies!! I'll take some pics and let you know how it went. Cheers - Max

 

Squeezing a wide 190 tire meant for 6 inch litre-bike rims, onto narrow 5.5 inch supersport or sport-tour rims can be a big mistake:

Stick with the 180 rear tire.

Mounting a tire on a rim which is narrower than it was designed for, pinches in the sidewalls and flattens the profile of the tire. That's probably fine for a wide chicken strip rider, but not so good for a guy that rides the sides off.

 

Nice article. In my opinion, if you want a fat rear tire. sell your vfr, buy a hayabusa and put that ridiculously fat rear tire on. Go for a straight line ride. you will be bored with in 10 minutes. Corners are what makes riding fun.......oh yeah and the occasional wheelie.
