I use Glass bead for the cabinet blaster, and black beauty for the outdoor blaster. basically anything engine related gets glass because it doesn't deposit anything into the metal. Anything else goes into the blasting hut

Tomorrow I'm off to speak with a mechanic to make sure everything with the engine is sound.... The moment I sat on this bike and rode it, I fell in love with it. No regrets with the purchase. If everything looks good with the engine (and from riding it, I feel nothing is wrong with the strength/ compression/ torque, everything), I'm going to strip this thing to the frame, sandblast/ prime and paint everything I can, and build it back to as close as new as is possible. And I fully intend to ride this bike as often as I'm able - I wish I still had my Nighthawk ('84 CB700SC), but it needed parts that don't exist anymore, and there seems to be a lot more parts to find online for the Interceptor. Thank you for the detailed updates, Mike -- it's giving me ideas of what I'm going to do with my bike as well (which is pretty much everything you've done so far) !! I will also be posting pics as soon as I get started, and hope to get this beast back on the road for the spring.
For those interested, I'm posting a pic of the Nighthawk - if you can find one in decent shape, they are fabulous bikes. [IMG]

Check your frame, see if someone has already drilled a drain hole at the bottom of triangular support. This was a factory recommendation to avoid water accumulating inside and rusting out frame. (Top is open)

I just assumed you knew I was kidding. I agree with you. Use the machinery.

Got my hands on a tail piece that was in better shape than the one i had. Spent a little time fixing it. re-enforcing it where it had cracked, and filling some of the deeper scratches. Put some paint on it and trying to see how it plays with the other colors.

I dunno, Mike......maybe I'm just a purist....but Honda's always look best in white, red, or black. Especially good if you can do a tri color of those three in a nice layout. then again, it's not my bike. Keep up the good work.

I get that. I know that I'm not going to please everyone with this build but that's not my goal. I want to show that you can pick up one of these bikes that may not be in easily restorable condition and still have fun and make them into something that you love. I am a huge fan of pure restoration, but I can't buy anything and not change it. Thanks for the encouragement though. That's one of the nice things I've noticed about this forum. Seems to be room for everyone.

I think it has a lot do with 45+ years of subliminal programming...yellow is suzuki, blue is yamaha, red is ducati and honda, green is kawasaki, silver is bmw. I got nothing against a Hondasaki. I'm liking your thread, so don't think I'm beating ya up.

Not at all. I appreciate all the feed back. Hope I don't come across that way.

You didn't come across that way at all....I was hoping I didn't either. As somebody who has done a few of these projects, I can understand that you want to make it your own and that it can sometimes not feel all that great when somebody says something about your baby. I'm all for going for it. I will keep following your build. We don't see too many of these over here anymore. Keep posting and I will keep looking and reading.

Looks great so far .... I'm hoping to do the Honda colours, but I'm thinking about leaving blue out of it entirely, and going red/ white/ black, including lines and callipers with some colour to make the bike pop.
Probably asked before, but are you still using paint from a can, or have you moved on to a better quality gun and booth ?? And, did I ask you if you have done any major work on the engine -- gaskets, carb work, etc. ???

My bike is in the shop as I write this, getting a check on the engine (compression and any other checks, but I think it's going to be good) - once I get a green light on the engine, I'll be tearing her down to the frame. I'll post plenty of pics once I get home Friday, hope to be working on it as much as possible in the next few weeks. Stay tuned !! And thanks for the updates, Mike, enjoying this restoration!!

Looking forward to seeing the finished paint job. I think most paint schemes on modern bikes are really boring, which is why i like these old interrceptors so much. I guess I don't have an imagination for these things since I'm struggling to picture your new colors. keep it up though and we'll know soon enough.
