(Second Water Pump leaking - got to replace with a new one, but first have to flush the old coolant. )

    My questions are :

    1. How much coolant does the vfr hold ( including the reservoir tanל filled to max) ?

    2. How much coolant is in the "cylinder chamber" (if I don't drain that bolt) ?

    3. what is the torque for the "Cylinder drain bolt" ( seems to be 6 or 7 mm flange bolt) ?

    4. Is that washer reusable ?

    5. can tilting the bike sideways (30-45 deg) be practical for draining the cylinder chamber ?

    6. Can i flush the old coolant (Cylinder Chamber) with a booze using regular pressured tap*
    * water(cold bike) ? or should I use distilled water and run it for 10 minutes ?

    7. After flushing with water some will remain in the cylinder chamber, filling up now with a 50%*
    * *diluted premixed solution will decrees the solution to less than 50%
    - What it the minimum limit of dilution allowed (keeping the pump in good mechanical shape) ?
    - Where can i get a Type 2 OEM solution that is not diluted ?

    Tnx

Obviously you don't have a service manual. I just flushed mine. I also have a freshly burned service manual disc sitting on my desk I was about to turf into the garbage. PM me with your address and I will send it off to you for the cost of a single malt for one of your friends.

Off hand I don[t recall the answer to most of your questions except that you should pull that drain plug and on the cooling system, you should replace that crush washer. I am sure you can get a washer for under a buck even at a Honda dealership. Get your coolant from a Honda Car dealership. Their 50-50 mix is identical to Honda MC coolant. A tip from my parts man.

I would advise you to take up Randy on his offer or if possible go here: 02-09 Honda VFR Service Manual

If you can't maybe I can answer your questions:
    1 - According to the HSM. Engine: 2.92 liter (3.08 Qt U.S.); Reserve Tank: .9 liter (.95 Qt U.S.)
2 - There's not much if I remember correctly. Your call if you want to do it or not.
    3 - These don't take a lot. 13 Nm (9 ft/lbs)
4 - Yes, if it is not overly warped. I prefer new if possible.
5 - On the Side stand should be good enough.
6 - Distilled water is better as it doesn't have the minerals and other "impurities" found in tap water.
7 - A 50/50 mix is probably the most commonly used so look at the bottle, some are already at a 50/50 premixed.

I just completed this task on my '07 RWB. After draining the coolant, I tightened the drain bolt with the old copper washer, and re-filled with 50% distilled water and 50% white vinegar. I ran the engine to operating temperature (watched for the thermostat to open), and then let it cool completely down. I drained the water & vinegar solution, installed the drain bolt with the old copper washer, and then re-filled with 100% distilled water. Ran the engine to operating temperature again, and then let it cool completely down. I drained out the water, installed the drain plug with a new copper sealing washer, and re-filled with three bottles of Honda M/C coolant. I left the radiator cap off, ran the engine to operating temp, and waited for the air to burp out of the system. I tightened the radiator cap, and then ran the engine for several minutes, and then let it cool completely down. After the engine was cool, I checked the radiator level, topped it off, and then filled the coolant recovery bottle to the upper limit. No issues since the coolant service.

What did the vinegar solution look like when you drained it? Going to be doing this in the next couple months

I didn't do the water flush. But the coolant that was in there "looked" fresh as new. I just followed the service manuals instructions on the change including running it to warm then blipping the throttle.

The vinegar did its job - some scale was noted in solution in the drain pan.

Did you leave the cap off each time?
