Wraped the lower fairings on my 8th gen for stone protection/aesthetics.
I was wondering if anyone else had any photos of wraps/decals that suits the VFR.

Hope i don't upset the purists.

Let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions.

There are many ideas for "licks" for your bike on Google Images. For chip protection, 3M makes an 8mil clear adhesive film that works well.

Wrapping and the other alternative of dipping are only temporary measures and will fail.

Decals and vinyl graphics are much more durable than the above. Tons of them on the net. Lots of guys from OZ on this forum who can suggest suppliers.

i have the 3M invisible bra ( wrap) on an eight year old Mazda MX-5...small road debris almost bounces off the stuff. the paint is probably still perfect under it.

I'm thinking a giant Japanese flag might look cool, a la the RC213V-S. Perhaps someone with photoshop skills could play around with it on a white Interceptor and see how it looks.

    Some bras should remain visible...always.

Never considered the many film types of paint protection products to be "wraps". 3M makes a shitload of variations on their films. Best bet for the DIY applications is to find a 3M wholesaler. For applying to cars, unless used to this type work best IMO,to have it done.

One area where "wrapping" is weak in in the prep especially if the substrate has been waxed with either an organic type or a polymer "wax" Both are sacrificial. One edge or fissure in a "wrap" or "dip" from a rock or a tear and the airflow will cause more tears and tears..

Some lucky person in the UK owns this one, I kept this pic from when it was on sale on the web. Vinyl wraps on a pearl white one.

I agree, the key is the prep...no wax no sealant for that invisible look. Unfortunately on the while paints all the coverings have a history of yellowing. Dark colors, no problem.

Great product!! Mine is 15+ years old and is made of Lexan. I've replaced the OE Velcro with marine grade Velcro.

I am a 3M fan from way back. They make hundreds of products. The 1080 "wrap" is a different product than the clear film as are the vinyl applique materials sometimes referred to as decals, overlays ect.

As an analogy, notice that the graphics on nearly all Honda tanks are under the clearcoat for a reason. IMO, the 1080 "wrap" will eventually fail. Another downside is that being for the most part opaque, there is some protection from paint fade whereas the areas not protected will fade.

Notice too that 3M suggests frequently that these materials be applied by trained and certified applicators.

If this sounds like a plug for paint and powdercoating, it is..;)

I plasti-dipped the same lower panel right after I bought it; thought it would look better breaking up the monotony. I did plasti-dip in case I didn't like the look, but it's still there 40k miles later!

Sounds like another case of Honda letting us all down by painting the bikes.

I have a couple of screwdrivers and a crescent wrench that are dipped. The mileage is unknown.
