2002 Model - 150 indicated (141gps). would it have went 1 or 2mph faster if I stayed in? Ehhhh, maybe. These bikes are are out of steam in high gear early. Honestly if anyone bought one of these bikes for speed they bought the wrong bike. They are pigs. Heavy and slow which Im ok with. My last bike was a 2001 CBR929 that put 143hp to the wheel and would do an honest 175. The VFR is "fast enough" but not so fast that you are holding on for dear life!

The VFR is fast enough. I'll take that added weight for a nicer touring mount. I don't spend much time over the 100mph mark. I get too paranoid about cops.

I can vouch for the 86. I saw those numbers on a ride out in the desert when I owned mine. Those old Honda clocks though, could be off by 75% so who knows.

Had to laugh at that one. I think the timing and scoring on you run was all screwed up or your a good poker player.

134 at the half?? and 145 at the 1/4? No way Jose'. My blackbird is a hell of a lot faster than your VFR and it runs 103 half and 137 1/4. Now tell the truth. Or was this event put on by the local Charley club?

Finally got a chance to try for 150mph. Not the intention, I was chasing another bike, but I did make 150mph so I'm done with that game.

All of you made me curious so I took mine out this afternoon and went faster than the speed of light, then everything went dark, I couldn't see any longer so I slowed down.

This is verified by Ghost Rider himself. He lives next door.

The speedo said north of 150 mph, but you know it lies optimistically.
Especially one less tooth on the front sprocket.
This test was of course on a top secret test road in the boonies. :kiwi-fruit:

Wow! Nice, to bad that the 2014's are slower but lighter. I think that the posted top available speed is 138 and I have never gotten "too Close" to that on any bike so I am good. Utah roads can be shitty and always have shitty work done on them every summer.

Lol at people being afraid to post their highest speed.

I've gone 115 on my VFR, needs a new rear tire though so I didn't feel safe doing much more than that. I've been up to 165 on my CBR600RR though.

    Reading this thread....

Seems as though it is you who is confused, sorry. "Half" = half a mile. Your Blackbird likely does 103 in the 1/8 mile, 137 in the 1/4. The post by carlgustav indicates 145 at the end of the Standing-start MILE, after 134 at the half mile. Although not listed, I'd expect maybe 115 to 120 in the 1/4. We can safely assume that the bigger Honda would be faster than that at every stage of a run.
It is not at all uncommon to see very diminished relative increases in speed as the velocity increases. It is all about wind resistance. Somewhere I have a link to a chart showing the percentage additional horsepower required for specified increases in mph of airspeed. We can agree that it is not a linear relationship, it is an exponential one.

Properly done, speed records factor in air density. Passenger planes can fly 550 mph at 30K feet. At ground level, eh, not happening.
