Hey all, I just bought a '14 dlx in white, I posted links to some vids of my new bike below. Please excuse my relatively newb riding skills but I'm coming from riding a 150cc scooter for the last year so I'm still getting used to the fact that the left lever is not a rear brake LOL. I did have a Ninja 300 before that but this Interceptor is taking some getting used to - so far I love it though and I was very pleased to see that I can fit a quarter pounder with cheese and fries under the rear seat cowl :whoo: I look forward to learning more about my Interceptor from all the members of this great forum :)

Here's the second video where I test whether I can fit a burger and fries under the rear seat cowl - enjoy :glee:

Thanks guys. Yes OOTV - I'm in Fla - just updated my profile to reflect that - now to find an avatar pic - it's gonna be hard to top you two guys' avatars LOL.

Hey can someone familiar with the 8th gen take a look at my night time vid above and let me know please if my lights are aimed/working properly? Seems like there's a huuuuuuuge (as Trump would say) dead spot from about 8 ft out to about 25 ft where there is seemingly very little illumination happening - is this normal? Hitting the high beams seems to fill it in a little. And when I turn to the right or left there's like a crescent moon shaped bright beam of light off in the distance but it's angled unfortunately in the wrong direction leaving a dark spot in the direction of the turn - is that normal too or should I adjust the headlights? Can I raise the beam of the low beams so they fill in the dead spot but yet leave the high beams alone? Or is it such that when you raise the low beams you must also raise the high beams?

Yup the light pattern is uneven break off in the middle.

He's referring to the factory LED headlights on the 8th gen, Scubalong.

To better answer your question, Greg....I have found that as for looks and how we look to others, these lights are great, but actual function at night...they suck! That dead spot was the first thing I noticed on my first night ride. The pool of light right in front of the tire is actually coming from the little "X" light between the main lights. To reduce the size of the dark area, I adjusted my low beams down from the factory setting. Unfortunately, there isn't anything you can do about the poor cornering performance. That's why some manufacturers are now adding cornering lights that only come on as the bike leans into a curve (any light that would send light into the corner while leaned over, would blind everyone when going straight, if it was always on) BTW, setting the clock is easy, just push and hold both buttons to get into set mode.

Thanks Dave - well that is disappointing to hear - but now that I know it's normal I'll just have to learn to adapt. Overall I'm very happy with the lights and the visibility they offer for the cagers around me. I will play around with the low beam settings as you suggest to see if it improves. And I will make it my mission this weekend to get the clock set - thanks!

I've done the opposite, not too worried about the dark spot in front of the bike, I figure if there's anything there either a) I will have seen it earlier and done something about it and b) if I haven't it's probably too late to do anything about it anyway. I've adjusted mine up as far as is compatible with low beam not pissing off everyone coming the other way and that means on high beam I get a bit more spread in corners. It's still not great but on the unlit country lanes around where I live, it's an improvement.

Hmmm...that's an interesting approach and I like your logic - I might give that a try too. What I'm most worried about is deer - there are tons of them in my neighborhood (I live next door to a big state park) and they like to leap into/across the subdivision roads. On my old Ninja I once had to grab the brakes when one popped into the road maybe 30 feet in front of me while riding about 40mph - I think the ABS kicked in and I managed to avoid it - but I'm afraid on my Interceptor it would pop right into the dead zone of the lights from the side and I might not see it.
