    Hello to all,

purchased yesterday a 2005 VFR ABS to replace a 2015 CRB500R. I started riding again after a 15 years hiatus (kids do that to you), and I taught the CBR would suit me fine for a couple years. It's a great commuter bike - to and from work makes trafic a breeze. But I found out that my daughter (turning 16 soon) loves riding on the pillion seat.

The CBR is great for solo driving, but its limit is quickly found when 2-up riding. We did manage to ride a couple times upwards of 350 miles days, which I was quite surprised of. But she asked me if we could tour more this summer, and since I found the CBR lacking some HP...

Hence the VFR purchase. 90k miles, single owner - one of the mechanics at the Honda shop where I bought it. Looks, handles and feels to be in perfect condition. No oil leaks or seeping gaskets, strong acceleration and breaking. Couldn't find a single flaw on the bike when I did the inspection - ok, maybe the windscreen needs some TLC...

Prior delivery, the dealer is changing oil and filter, air filter (which I want to see) and battery. I asked for new slicks (Michelin PR4s) to replace the PR3s that have little tread left. As I am myself an AME (Aircraft mechanic), I can perform most of the maintenance. But what else should I look for: R/R and the charging system, leaking front forks, chain slack? Anything else?

Thanks for any feed-back. Can't wait for next Thursday. :)
    John

Thanks all! Did another 120 miles ride this evening. It's a dream to ride this bike. It just wants to go on and on and on... though I found a first snag: the rad fan temp. switch failed. Simple replacement.

Indeed, my daughter loves to ride the back seat - she's setting up our summer trip actually, will visit Nova Scotia and Cape Breton in 3 weeks.

Nice to see so many other Canadians here, I too am on the fence about getting back into riding after a 6yr break (not including a brief 1 month fling last summer...).

I've found an 09 VFR in mint condition where the guy is asking $6500 with 18k on it, hard bags, and safetied. I'm a little nervous about getting back into the sport and the expenses that come with it to be honest, what with retirement planning and such. I've owned everything from GSXRs, hayabusa, CB919, but I need a bike that doesn't kill my neck from being bent looking 'up' all day riding. I know there's bar risers, but I kind of hope to just buy something and ride it without spending a whole lot more on mods.

Maybe I need to start a new thread...

I actually just came back from a 2300km road trip on the bike with my daughter - no pain whatsoever anywhere. Not a single hiccup for the 5 days trip too - bike performed flawlessly.

On2wheels, are you the same as on HardwareCanucks?

    After-market seat? Check (locally made).
Heli-bars? Maybe. Next trip may seal the deal - going to Niagara Falls and back from Montreal in 3 weeks.

ATGATT? Both of us when she rides with me too - non-negotiable. I cringe when I see these riders and backseat passengers with nothin' more than a tshirt. I stopped by a girl ata red light riding her GSXR600 on that trip, wearing a very tight tshirt and very short shorts. Told her I loved her long legs and boobs, and to stay that way she'd better wear a riding coat and a least some jeans.... My daughter heard the convo over the Sena, and laughed so loud the lady rider never looked at me again.

Hope she got the message. :peaceful:

hey yeah it's me. :) 2300km 2up, wow. I'm truly on the fence about another bike, the VFR has always been on my radar but never until I got through the sportbike phase. I've been out of this hobby for a while now and if I do jump back in I might make the VFR a reality. The bar risers I can see doing, but really nothing else. Also I'm a bit worried why no one has snatched up this 2009 that i'm going to see. It looks immaculate, why do you guys think it's still around? $6500 too much? http://www.kijiji.ca/v-sport-touring/ottawa/2009-honda-vfr800-interceptor/1177330364

@On2Wheels did you go look at that bike? I saw the same add on Kijiji, sent him a msg but have not heard back from him. Very tempted to buy the grey one in Aurora.. but not sure on the price.

If someone would give me a little advice.. I have not actually seen the bike yet as it is a bit of a drive for me, but it is fairly competitively priced for whats available around me, and the KM are lowwwwww. Has basically everything I want, other than a top box, tank bag, and aftermarket exhaust.

    2008 Honda VFR 800 Interceptor:
Sword silver metallic colour. Bike accessories include: Oxford heated grips, auxiliary fuse panel, Dynojet power commander, Sargent seat and original seat, colour matched pillion seat cover, auxiliary tool kit, Haynes manual, auxiliary 12 volt power source, colour matched Givi panniers and removable soft bags, Gilles frame slider kit, Kryptonite rotor lock, battery maintainer, K&N oil filter installed and new spare, Crampbuster throttle cruise assist, brand new battery and brand new Michelin Pilot Power 2CT tires front and rear. Certified July 22, 2016. Always stored indoors. Excellent condition. 8,200KM asking $7,500 (doesn't want to move too much on the price).

Yeah I did, it's got quite a few marks on it, seemingly everywhere too, alot of the stickers are scuffed as well as the fairing in places. It's been dropped at least once, possibly on both sides, but he's up front with this info, and it does look very good mechanically by the sounds of it.
To be honest I'd have bought it by now but I've had buyers remorse before, not because it was a bad bike mind you, and I want to be sure my next bike is the right one for me. I'm 85% sure the VFR is the right one. I May wait this year out, yet again.

Meh, no don't remorse on a bike! Unless you total it you can generally sell it for what you bought it for. To be honest I haven't even ridden a VFR, sat on a 2007 at a local dealership, and said yup! Seems to check all the boxes for what the wife and I want for now, till we move into full cruiser land.

Still negotiating this 2008, haven't heard back on my counter offer yet... But I want it bad lol, bout to send him a email and say fine you win. Take my money. There is a nice red 2004 north of Kingston with low miles, asking 6k for.
