This may have been brought up before, But does anyone run ENGINE ICE COOLANT in their 6th gen VFR? if so have you witnessed a drop in temp when tooling around the more congested areas? I was thinking about picking up some. Feed back is appreciated.
Although I run Engine Ice, there is almost no way you can do a comparison of before and after unless you are in a controlled environment. There is just no way to have the absolute same conditions before and after. I went with Engine Ice because I use it in my 5 Gen (track approved) and figured use the same in both bikes, so I now use it in my 6 Gen. That being said, I usually run close to the max temp of 220 when riding in LA/OC street traffic in the summer time, but have not gone too far above that. I will also say that when I was in King's Canyon a few years ago, before the Engine Ice, I was running in the 230-240 range stuck behind slow moving vehicles. This was also in a higher elevation and have not seen these types of temps since then. But as I said, no way to know if Engine Ice is a factor, as I have not been in those same conditions since. Personally I would just run it if you're inclined to want to try it. So far I have not had any issues or heard of anyone say it has done damage to their vehicle.
With that said I'll give it go. I usually see around 210-215 in the city, today 85 deg in traffic high humidity she hit 222... Thanks Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
I don't run Engine Ice, but I hit 235 running up hill mostly in Vtec 2nd gear. Ambient was in the mid to upper 90s. So if you do notice a difference, I'd be interested in hearing back from you.
I switched from 1 year old antifreeze to engine ice while i lived in NYC during the Summer. Went from bike overheating on the BQE to staying below 220 with the fan on regardless of temp/humidity.
There is one caveat, apparently Engine Ice recommends changing it every year. In fact, I just found out about this the other day and actually bought some for the 6 Gen as its my primary bike. At ~$20/gallon it's another $40/year for maintenance. I had an issue with my radiator cap giving up a little bit ago, so I know it's not quite a year but I have a trip planned in September so I want it to be fresh and ready to go. Probably should gets some for the 5 Gen too, as this I'm sure it's been over the year mark, possibly 2+ years.
