    I use car oil in my cars, motorcycle oil in my motorcycle, feed my fish, fish food, and I eat American food. Life is so complicated. ; )

    From my foggy memory - Survey on the "other" site showed the 3 most popular oils are Rotella t6, Mobil 1, and Amsoil. Pick your poison. Asking for the best oil is like asking what is the best beer. Everybody likes what they like......

    Is that a blend, synthetic or conventional? Actually, I heard if you mix it 1/2 & 1/2 with sesame seed oil, you really have something!

    Most coconuts are virgins. An old Chinese guy who was shipwrecked on a desert island wrote aboot this.

    Looks like we are once again down to "my oil is better than your oil" again. On the subject of formulation, I don't think Shell or any of the other lube oil producers except maybe the Harley Oil folks let those petroleum engineers and chemists just sit around all day. Same deal with those same engineers who formulate the gas we burn.

    So my car was stolen and no bags on my bike, so if it doesn't fit in my backpack I get it shipped. In this case I bought the three pack of gallon jugs for 55$ so I could get free shipping.

    My oil is bigger than your oil.. The same could be said aboot tires, leaving oot the chance of over inflation.

    Double posts? Too much coffee.. Or, I am being influenced by the radio ads that repeat some phone number five or six times..

    Tried to delete the double.. no joy.. Weird connection sometimes..

    The Castrol that smelled great was Castrol R. A squirt in the gas tank made us slow guys smell like fast guys.. One combo that didn't quite make the grade in race cars was Castrol R and a nitro and alky fueler. That was kind of nostalgic but for sure would bring tears to one's eyes..

    Speaking of alcohol, I had a friend in Montana that had a mud/dirt dragster. 1000 HP, ran on alcohol. Vicious fast, but the exhaust on that thing was crazy. You didn't know you were breathing it until your lungs started hurting.

    I have no experience with Rotella, but a thorough search of their web site and brochure indicates this oil is optimized for heavy duty diesel trucks and equipment for which it formulated with special additive for soot reduction, etc. I am sure it is an excellent oil for that purpose, but I can not find ANY reference on their site or brochure for use in motorcycles. We have always been taught not to use non-motorcyle oils.

    Download the Shell ROTELLA® T6 Full Synthetic Heavy Duty Engine Oil brochure

    On the other hand, Amsoil Metric Motorcycle and V-Twin oils are optimized and blended specifically for motorcycles.

    G3344 - Metric Motorcycles Brochure

    G3337 - V-Twin Motorcycles Brochure

    If it works for you, great, but I will stick with motorcycle oil.

    Cold start up protection............ That is very important. Hence an ester based synthetic.

    If you really want to geek out and read a shit ton of years of testing, this guy has a lot of info.
    https://540ratblog.wordpress.com/2013/06/20/motor-oil-wear-test-ranking/

    I know a lot of guys that are running Shell Rotella T6 but it did not rate well in protection and thermal. The low thermal rating in conjunction with it being rated at #156 got my attention especially with how hot VFR's can run. At 67,804 psi rating it was about half of the top tested oils. 260 degree was alarming too.

    156. 5W40 SHELL ROTELLA T6 Diesel Oil, synthetic, API CJ-4, CI-4 Plus, CI-4, CH-4, SM, SL = 67,804 psi
    zinc = TBD
    phos = TBD
    moly = TBD

    SHELL ROTELLA T6, 5W40 synthetic, API CJ-4, CI-4 Plus, CI-4, CH-4, CG-4/SM = 260* F
