My longest trip was from Tampa to Key West, a little over 7 hours and 420 miles, on a 2007 CBR600rr :grief:
The first 5 hours for Tampa to Key Largo was fine, I was book'n it so there was plenty of wind to provide pressure on the upper body, but that last 2 hours from Key Largo to Key west was brutal.
45 mph speed limits provide no relief for your wrists or back on a super sport. Man I had to pull over and walk it off every 30 minutes through the keys.

I have done Orlando to Key west a few times on the VFR and it was not nearly as bad.

I usually go to Clearwater for March break with the family and have considered trailering the bike down with us then taking it down to the Keys. It looks like it could be a nice ride but is it really? Seems like it might just be a lot of long straight roads with a nice destination.

Honestly the keys is a nice view, but a terrible ride. So slow, zero turns and a million speed traps.

Good info on the Keys guys ... it's been forever since I've been there and am considering taking the bike down there one day.

Longest day some years ago ('83?) was from Ashland, WI to Holland, OH... Across Michigan's UP, and down I-75. Right around 680 miles. That was on the '78 GS750

More recently, I have run the Lake Erie Loop http://lakeerieloop.org/ half a dozen times. Usually that is about 650 miles, but once I got lost and took the long way, running closer to 720 miles. Completed loops were run three times on my '83 V45 Sabre (VF750-S) in the Touring class. The "lost" year was on my '75 RD200. One was on a friend's Suzuki GN125. And the first "Loop" I ran was on my '90 Honda NS50F. Yep, a single day 660 mile ride on a little 2-stroke. But it did have a 65cc big bore kit, LOL!

Scares/crazy stuff I've probably forgotten most of. There have been a few, lemme think about it, but maybe it is best I don't remember! :sentimental:

I guess we should stop calling any of the Ironbutt events, competitions. How bout an Ironbutt of 15 miles in 24 hours. For me that's two trips to WalMart. I always enjoy WalMart.

LOL ... Ironbutt's are personal challenges IMHO.

I've been known to make a trip or two to the local Wallyworld though, you meet the most interesting people there. :)

Back in the late 70's we would rail down to the keys from Broward county at night. Did it on RD 350's, CB 750 Four's and KZ 1000's. Traffic was very sparse in the wee hours and was a fun ride. Now it is crowded all the time and no fun on 2 wheels. Sometimes I will take Card Sound bridge at the top of the Keys to a little greasy spoon salon but that is far as I go down there on 2 wheels. I do still trailer my boat down to the lower Keys to fish and dive, a pain in the ass ride.

Crazy times back then. 70s-80s wasn't sure where my head was at with all the rides I did.. Today not so. more to the case of the population explosion up here, can't go anywhere these days with out some sort of a Cluster F! I did a couple straight back from Laguna seca, in the 90s, took like 13 hours 900 miles. a couple to San Fran and back, again 11-12 hours 700+ miles. Around here there's a route we call the Olympic loop, 360 miles 6-7 hours. its a hoot when there's no RVers, I've always thought that would make for one hell of a TT.

    http://www.pbinn.com/olympic_loop.htm

But now with all the traffic, just isn't what it use to be, most of it now is a royal PITA. I now have more fun on 200 and under on great road rides now, trick is in the timing of no to little traffic.

For me, it was all day. From near daylight to around dark in March in the Smoky Mtns. I don't remember how many miles (prolly close to 350) but a day of riding there isn't measured in miles, it's measured in curves. There were close to a zillion. That's too many for one day there.

Going through Sequim can add aboot an hour to that loop.. Starting from Seattle and cutting back to Seattle makes that a really great day ride.

One of the more positive aspects of marathon rides aka piling up the miles, is that getting those piles fixed doesn't leave much of a scar.

If only Jeff had made the speed a ton, we could have coined an all new term. We could even have a contest and send the top five over to the other site..
