You never know until you make sawdust. We wood workers tend to be our own worst critics. But think of it this way. We don't make mistakes. We incorporate character into our projects.

If a road bike rider is called a roadie, and old music is called oldies, can we wood workers call ourselves "woodies"?

Ya. That kinda works against my grain so to speak. This could have been a much cheaper project had the stiles and rails of the carcass been made or something other than oak plywood.

Next project will be to trash all the odd shaped and sized benches, shelves and cupboards in my garage and build custom cabinets it there. Those will be European style with MDF doors. Want to learn how to use a paint spray gun and paint the doors gloss black. The bench will be laminated kd fir. K think that is going to look sharp.

lol, I see what you did there. "That kinda works against my grain so to speak" I guess you could have sanded and wood filled for a few months........

All this wood talk is giving me wood to do another project.

I have seen a grain filler process where you ill coarse grain yet it leaves the grain visible for a clear or stained finish. I think it involved mixing saw dust with stain and shellac. Allows for a glass smooth finish of a coarse grained wood like oak. Might try that on a piece of furniture some day.
