I've been doing a ton of summer riding since my long trip to Canada (ride report almost finished). :)

The other rides are not report worthy...just thousands of miles of slabbing. I hope to make it to CO before school begins so I may have something more interesting from that.

Anyways, I do have some good stories that happened in a long day of riding: Haku turned 20k, owls and a whole ton of bats swooping in front of my face while riding, tons of other critters, massive amounts of pot smoke billowing out of a semi cab rolling down an interstate, getting pulled over for the first time ever on a moto by a state trooper for 86 in a 70 only to be invited into his patrol car for AC and to talk moto trips, some sort of wood flying out of a truck and pegging me in the foot and knee, then I got littered on...grrrr....and my boot has a hole in the sole...RIP boots.

So I did 1,755 miles recently...of that was 626 miles in a day.

This led me to wonder, what's the longest day you've ended up being in the saddle and why?
    (excludung tries at Iron Butts)

Did anything super crazy happen during that time?

Well you have me beat. My longest day was over ten hours and about 550 miles I think. Let me map it.

Yep, you got me! Two July's ago I ride out to Nashville from southern California. 2050 miles in four days. All slab.

You already know first hand my answer to this. :)

1000 miles in 20 hours and I'd do it again in a heart beat.

As for crazy stuff .... Every thing from road head, over turned RVs, to semi tire shrapnel flying at me.

Yesterday on my way home from the trip, I had to dodge a huge cardboard box. Had I not ducked and tucked on the bike, it would have hit me.

I'm hoping it has something to do with how your hair looks after wearing the helmet for many hours but then the darker side of me is thinking something completely different.

Hahaha. I pulled up alongside a car on I-29 during my Iron Butt ... some guy was getting a blow job from his lady friend at 90 MPH

I'm going on a couple of day trip this Friday and Saturday, hoping I will be able to add something useful to this thread. The plan is for 7 to 800Km each day. we will see how that goes.

Awesome! Good luck on your trip, zombie!

I'll be heading out again for September long weekend. I haven't decided between the cage or motorcycle - if I do the motorcycle, I may go for another Iron Butt Saddlesore 1K (1000 Miles (1600km) in 24 hours or less).

You guy's are awesome. It's really cool how much riding you do and I enjoy reading the write ups. Everyone does.

But just a note about us old decrepit folks. It not a competition. Don't feel like you need to keep up with these young bucks.
One time, I went for a 50 mile ride on backroads that was a fooking blast. Someone here said, "I don't get out of bed for
a hundred miles". Yeah I know it was a joke but it made me push myself on one ride which I shouldn't have.

Ride your own ride is key, where ever you go, for however long....

Well said, Rob. It's not a competition, it's about enjoying yourself.

Agreed Rob, went out for a nice ride Monday morning (civic holiday here), only did about 100 Km with a nice stop for breakfast midway. Back home before the house even woke up and had the whole day ahead of me to waste, which I did in remarkable fashion.

I live in the small state of CT. Noob about 5.5 months riding under my belt. I do about 35 - 50 miles after work everyday its not raining. The most in one sitting a measly 78-80 miles of twisty's and light highway on a Sunday. Fun as all hell. Planning a ride up to Canada (Montreal) in early to mid September. That ride should put my tail to the test.

I completely agree that it's not a competition and that short rides can be the most glorious.

For example, Highway 24 from Little Fort, BC to 93 Mile, BC was 60 miles of pure bliss...a million times more worth it than racking up miles on the odo and more enjoyable to me than some other suggested roads I traveled up there.

It is fun though to hear the craziness that comes with long times in the saddle.

I can't remember the exact mileage, but it was around 1,075 once.
I had left at 6:00 am and stopped to overnight around 2:00 am.
I was so tired that I had to pull over several times...I was hallucinating black shadows running into the road.

    VERY crazy, not fun.

Main thing is to ride in a way that is enjoyable and fun for you...
which can be as different for others as aftermarket seat or oil prefereces are. ;)

I've done 8-9 hour days, but the mileage was only 380 miles. The route I took was intentionally intended to string as much canyon roads together as I could. Very little slab that day.

I have done 1077 miles in 15 hours or so. I was on a trip from Houston TX to Seattle Wa. A friend sent me to pick up a bike he had purchased and ride it home for him. I'd been on the road for about a week and was at Canyon lands National park in Utah. To be honest I was a bit tired and ready to go home so that's what I did headed home. Left at about 7:00am rode a tanks worth of fuel, stopped for gas and something to drink or eat and moved on until the next tank of fuel was gone. it was an uneventful ride on the slabs. I would have made it home but at 10:00 pm I was tired and did not want to ride over the cascade Mtns. in the dark for fear of dear and not being fully alert. I was after all riding someone else's bike, and needed to bring it to him in one piece.

Now this was on a Triumph Sprint ST not a VFR so perhaps it doesn't count.

    Vancouver Bound!

I once rode from Sylvan Lake AB. to Vancouver B.C.. About 1200 k.m.'s. Was supposed to ride to Van. in 2 days, but I left late, hit a wicked storm just outta town, so I spent the night in Sylvan Lake. Was my first really long ride on my then new 1985 Honda VF750FF. Went through the snow sheds at Roger's Pass, where I almost hit the back of a Grader. He was going very slow, me very fast, with my sunglasses on! It's dark in the tunnels, didn't see him until I was very close! Had a great day of riding, got a ticket on the newly opened Coquihalla Hwy., was going very fast on there. When I came out of another snow shed, coming down from the summit, an RCMP flicked his lights on, just as I was passing him, he was beside the road, parked. Scared the shit outta me! Being B.C., never paid the ticket, of course, then kept on going! Made it to Vancouver at 1 a.m., when it was still 20 degrees Celcius out. I was in "the zone" for the last part of that ride. Could've gone for another 1000 k's! With the darkness around me, I was very focused on my instruments and the sound of the V4 engine and the road. Was a magical trip. About 5 days later I'd be in the hospital in Port Alberni, after crashing my bike on the road back from Tofino. Back then, it was a lot more winding and dangerous. But, that trip set memories in place that'd keep me going all these years later. Magical.

1200 miles in one day. From just outside San Sebastián on the Spanish border, through France to Calais, England then home to Stranraer in SW Scotland. The previous day. From Malaga to that wee place just outside San Sebastián think that was around 800 miles.

WTF! Was that a pleasure ride, or a "gun to my head" ride? Wow, that's a long ride, or rides!
