Thanks, and the video of your F2 looks great as well. That is what inspired me to find the Lockhart full fairing for mine. I still can't believe the size of the license plates they make you guys run on your bikes. A fender eliminator does not appear to be an option.

Not in Europe. At least not unless they are some special corroding type of stainless steel. I have four rusty down pipes to prove it.

Julian Ryder makes an interesting comment in that article where he confirms the all or nothng action of the clutch. Mines like that too, fixed with some adjustable levers, as discussed in another thread.

Thanks to invisible cities for posting these articles. They are very interesting.

Yes the license plates are big here in Denmark, or is my bike too small? :) (maybe I need a VF1000R ALSO ?? ;-)

WOW, never knew it existed, almost as cool as finding a unicorn in your backyard!!! Don't know how I ever missed that model all these years.

I lusted after the Lockhart lower for my '86 VF-500F back in the mid-80s, a good riding friend had gotten one for his '85 VF-700F (jealous was I), but I just couldn't afford it.

Well my 86 VF500F2 has been put to some good use recently, i just used it to go on a 600 mile round trip to the Assen MotoGP with 7 friends all on modern bikes.
I happy to say she ran absolutely perfectly.
I'd say the bike is ageing better than me now, as this bike has been in the family for the last 18 - 20 years, as my father originally owned it.

The VF500 was ahead of its time. I still use mine for long runs too. I'm 6ft3in so it's a tight squeeze, and I'm an old fart, but I don't care.
Hard to believe it first hit the showrooms 32 years ago.

    Remarkable bikes.
80's Honda's build quality was top draw, which sort of proves why they are still around today, and they are still a bit of an unsung classic which are fairly cheap to pick up still today, hope it stays like that, as it's easier to maintain.

I own a couple of RGV250's and used parts prices, as well as the bikes are crazy money nowadays, they seem to be climbing at around £500 a year.

I think i'll end up keeping mine forever, as for the effort i've put into it as i love maintaining it, and it's a lovely bike, when i was catching the ferry back from Holland, i had a guy come up to me and start reminiscing about when he had one, and this little Honda was parked between bikes costing 10 to 15 grand and it was getting all the attention, still makes me laugh now.

Couldn't agree more. Their only real issue is they can drop valves if not looked after. I have two spare engines covering that eventuality.

I'm always wary that at the end of the day it's a 30 year old engine, so i never red line it nowadays, i think it saw 10,000rpm once...lol

In a lot of ways, I think that the 500's are the best of that First Generation of bikes.

It's kind of interesting they changed the engine in the later models. Deeper sump, line bored cams, different carbs etc etc. Not that there was much wrong with the early models.

Yet the VF750F never got any of those mods but you could argue that was in far more need. Maybe Honda just wrote the 750 off and put their efforts into the VFR but thought they could extend the life of the 500. In the event the 500 was doomed by association too.

Sometimes I get the urge for a VF750F (or an early VF1000F) but then I see sense.

    Your VF500F2 looks GREAT !! :- )

I will never sell my VF500, it' a keeper.
Same for me, the old VF500 gets more attention then new bikes, I think it is great.

I'm sure that same will happen for my new 1986 VFR 750 F Interceptor.....

I pulled in at Marriott's in Brokenhead on mine recently. They used to sell Hondas, but sadly not any more. Anyway, they loved it. Obviously.
