Really been enjoying my 06 put over 1k miles on it since I bought it. However, I've been noticing what I would call micro hesitations when just cruising. Just small enough you almost don't notice or they could be unsteady throttle hand. I've heard the factory fuel maps are a bit strange at low rpm and the PO gutted the cans but no power commander. So I tried not to let it bother me and just kept an eye out for anything worse.

So, on my way home from a 2 hour ride this weekend. I was accelerating from 30-35 and the bike started stalling. It didn't completely cut the throttle but it was definitely starving for fuel. If you have ever owned a bike with a valve to switch to reserve tank, that is exactly what it felt like. So I clutched in gave it a few blips and it was fine after.

Anyone had some similar issues? Maybe a bad fuel injector?

Maybe a bottle of injector cleaner to start...My bike is set up the same way 06 with gutted cans, love the sound & no power commander. I have run a half bottle or sea foam thru mine just cause (white smoke normal just the sea foam running thru the system) , also an injector cleaner about a month later. NO problems knock on wood.

Don't know why I didn't think of that. I've heard nothing but good things about seafoam. I'll pick some up on the way home tonight and see how it goes.

I am unclear from your experience if it was truly going to stall or if you thought it was because you were unfamiliar with the symptom and it was kind of scary. So a true stall could be something like what you guys are onto there.

Otherwise the shaky-throttle symptom can result from a starter valve imbalance, and this would happen right at that speed range. So if you bring the bike to a steady cruise, test for example 3700,3800,3900 RPM, (depends on gearing) steady throttle, and you find a shaky RPM, that's the starter valves. Add throttle and it goes away but if you let off and come back down to that rpm and hold it again, that shake comes right back, as though it will not allow you to cruise at that particular RPM. In this case tune the starter valves.

Regarding the exhaust leaning the engine out: The majority of pulse reflections are developed in something like the first 18" of exhaust. Also the outlet diameter is a factor. Are these stock cans? Assuming stock exhaust, this should not be running much, if any leaner than factory. Of course factory is already ridiculously lean, for which a PC could get you some smoothness and power. But gutting the cat and mufflers, I do not think it is harmful for you to not have a PC.

I don't think that was the issue. But I'll give it some testing to be sure. I very much appreciate any advice. It could explain the unsteady ride when at low speed.

But what happened this weekend was definitely a stall. More throttle did not fix it. Which is why it reminded me of ye old, out of fuel time to switch to reserve, ninja 500 I had. It just went away after I clutched in and it dropped to idle. Wasn't so much a scary situation as a "don't you die on me dammit" kind of thing lol.

    Update!

I ran some Seafoam through the fuel system. And didn't seem to have anymore issues. Then a few weeks later it bogs down on me again. This time while turning left at an intersection. So at a friends suggestion I pulled the spark plugs and found this on the #2 cylinder. image.jpg

Shots of the plug and the tube. Looks like the plug was imprperly set. But I really dont like the notion of oil coming up from that cylinder. :(

Good find hopefully this is the remedy. This winter I'll be doing a plug change for piece of mind.
