    Hey all

I bought myself a 2000 VFR800Fi last friday, and I have been loving it so far. I came from a 2005 SV650S and I must say the power is noticeably increased. Also, despite having read about the bike being heavy, I actually think it's just as easy to flick around if not easier. I'm thoroughly impressed with how it rides. I have a stock muffler on it at the moment, but i actually still like the sound and those gear driven cams is just something I've never heard before. The previous owner installed Hyperpro springs up front, but as far as I know, nothing has been done to the rear shock. I'm wondering whether it's worth the money to buy a Wilbers shock made for my weight instead of the stock one. When it comes to suspension, I want it to be "on point". What are your experiences here - worth the money to buy an aftermarket shock?

I've been riding since 2014 and I've taken several courses in addition to getting my drivers license to improve my skill and get in some good habits before i learn the bad ones. I plan on taking the bike touring down from Denmark to Germany this summer. Besides that I use the bike for fun rides outside town as well as commuting to work. If any of you reading this are from Denmark, hit me up - I'd be fun to go ride with more people.

    Nice bike mate.
Definetley do something with the rear shock.
Stock one is under sprung and very under damped. On top of that, it is now 16 years old.
Any after market shock will be a great improvment, and worth the money.
Ater that, you can do the front fork valves and shims, that will make a huge difference as well.
    Welcome aboard.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Beautiful blue bike! The best generation of VFR also!

Here for about $300 we can have the stock shock rebuilt, with a spring appropriate for the rider's weight and set to the ideal height. Aftermarket or racing shocks will probably have an advantage in terms of finite adjustment, small adjustments having a more linear and definitive effect. I started riding in 2014 as well and think it will be a long time before I could even detect such finite adjustments. If money for this accessory is not an object, an aftermarket shock is probably great in every single respect. If you are budgeting many different things, then see if you can get a rebuild and consider its significant improvement over OEM.

Some do like the remote adjustment available with a some aftermarket shocks. I would not want any external adjuster and prefer a stock look overall.

I agree on the flickability of the VFR. Some not used to a heavier sport bike misinterpret "more effort" with "slow turning". The bike steers extremely fast, and is well-balanced so the weight does seem to disappear at speed.

Gotta love Knight's advice to the new dude from Denmark. Here's what you should do to your bike...

    Thanks for the welcome guys!

@OZ VFR - I will take a look at the forks thanks. I know the dealership changed the seals on the forks when they prepared the bike for me, but I don't know, if they looked at the shims and valves as well.

@Knight - That's great advice thanks. I'll look into the rebuild. Sounds like a viable option. A natural option would be to put a hyperpro spring on the shock to match the front

Only problem with this bike is, that it feels so comfortable to ride fast on it and the power is there to make it move. When riding in the city I constantly need to watch the speed, because I underestimate the pace I'm going :p.

Welcome and nice ride. Gotta say I dig the blue/white combo as well. Have not seen that before but it definitely works.

    Welcome! Beautiful moto!

Speed sweet spot for my moto is 90 mph.
Problem here is that speeds are usually around 60 -75 mph on highways.
    The speeding struggle is real.

    Congrats!

Damn you guys are friendly! Already loving this forum. Thank you all for the warm welcoming. Randy, if you ever decide to do the trip, I have a couch for a fellow VFR rider and a cold Carlsberg in the fridge ;).

Couches work well. But at my age, you would need two big ass nurses to get me out of the couch. A hospital bed would work better. I would love to come over your way for a visit but though not impossible, not too likely.
