    Oh man I feel your pain...almost. When I took the wheels off for powder coating, I looked em over making sure they went back the same way, luckily or smart on Hondas part they put cast arrows on the rim and scribed the disc carriers. I can see this happening, that and yes you now know the shim collars are different left to right SMH crazy huh. Your on track now, you'll be the new go to guy from all the experience you've had.

    I know the feeling, after rebuilding the front forks on the '83 (second time), while putting the left caliber on, I got the disk between the back of a pad and the caliper, didn't sound very good! Glad you got it sorted out.

    I have been rather obsessed with this problem. The left side axle shaft didn't fit like the book said, with the scribed line aligned with the fork leg. I knew the disk were not offset and I knew that my spacers were on the right sides and last night, just as I was going to sleep I thought "I'll bet the offset is in the wheel itself. It has to be." I got out in the shop before 7:00 this morning to test my theory and it was right.

    I agree with Long, the best thing is to just walk away for a while/day and come back to it later. If you don't you either get so frustrated you wind screwing something else up and making the situation worse or you just keep going round in circles and accomplish nothing except ruining your day. Once you are relaxed and have a clear head, the solution usually presents itself fairly easily.

    Glad you got it solved. So what's next?

    It's like the old saying, "the first step in getting out of a hole is to stop digging." I have new pads on order (It needed them) and so I will wait on that shipment. I have a pretty full week with work and all. I may find time to get the tire swapped round and reballanced. I will get it back on the road eventually.

    It is better. I have been tinkering with it. The shop I work at did the electrical recall but broke my fairing where I plastic welded it. I had to fix that again. I am still not happy with the fairing. It think it was tweaked in the wreck that is pretty obvious for some fairing rash. I have been finding and replacing stripped out and broken well nuts but I think I have them all. I have a gap at the bottom of the fairing, in the front, of about 1/4" that drives me nuts. The fairing seems to fit fine except for the gap. (I know I am being picky)

    The front wheel still feels a bit snug but that could be for the new pads dragging.

    Also, I found a length of what looks like 3/8" gas like running from under the tank back to the rear of the tail, under the seat. It is not connected to anything. It's just sitting in there and terminates around the top of the rear cylinder cover.

    Weird.

    Would that be an extension to the tank breather line? Mine terminates at an elbow joint around the rear cam cover. IIRC the original extension had been burning itself against the rear headers so I threw it away.

    The line looks old and doesn't look like an OEM part. Given that the bike is bone stock I can't see any reason for it being there.

    I got the fairing back on. I took my time and checked alignment. I bent tabs and chased all the threads with tap and die. It has a better alignment now and the gap in the front is less noticeable.
