I just picked up one of these, and I was on my way to work so I didn't have too much time to mess with it but I had a few questions for those that own it.

(I also searched the forum and read the seat comparison thread. Very informative  )

1: When only using the main part of the seat. Leaving the passenger seat off and having the solo cowl on. Will the seat stay in place? It doesn't "latch down" on anything and looks like it could slide back easily? :distrust:

2: Do any of you use the space when the passenger seat is out for storage? Would water and stuff get in there if it's left empty?

3: The Solo cowl doesn't fit over the passenger seat section?

4: Any use, or care tips experience Sargent seat owners would like to share?

My cowl has never left the plastic bag but I can answer #4 ...... treat it like your OEM seat, mines 7 or 8 years old now and still looks new.

    Thanks!

You've never ran it without the passenger seat?

No I haven't. If nothing else I just prefer the look of the seat better than the cowl. I know a few peeps on here that run the cowl, they should be along soon....

Awesome! So you ride without the rear seat section?

Can you answer #1? Does the main seat section stay securely in place?

    it certainly does stay on.

it has two L shaped brackets on the bottom that go under the same place as the stock seat. it also hooks to the tank (kinda under) and has the loop for the lock/latch.

don't worry. it's solid and better than stock. sometimes, after 6hrs in the seat, i wish it was a bit firmer, but other than that, it's a joy

Hmmmm...while the main seat portion does seem to have the brackets that "hook" into place by sliding the seat forward, it is removed easily by sliding the seat backwards which is what worries me.

It doesn't have the loop to lock into the latch as that is on the passenger seat only.

So my concern is that without the passenger seat, the main seat could come loose by the rearward pressure of me riding on the seat.

You are correct. I was thinking about the Sargent on my St1300.

You do not have to worry. I have ridden mine with only the front section for close to two years and have never had any issues with it moving. I do ride fairly aggressively
