Hello - I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a bobbin replacement kit available for our VFRs? or if anyone knows what the dimensions of our existing bobbins and I can try to match up a generic bobbin. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, yes I read that post when I was searching. I realize the bobbins will have to be drilled out. I am just not happy with the "floating" ability of these rotors. And yes. I am noticing a slight pulsing under hard braking at highway speed. The rotors are not warped, they just don't move freely on the bobbins...like other bikes I have had. But you are correct, bobbins are hard to find.

I am not sure what you mean...

I am looking to remove the existing bobbins and replace, in order to convert my present semi-floating rotors to full-floating...

Not just for racing. This type of rotor was stock on both my BMW K1100 RS (Sport Touring) and my BMW R1100 RT (Touring) - not noisy at all.

I don't think you could get product liability insurance on such a product. Some idiot like SOW would buy it and you would have a wrongful death lawsuit day one.

Have you tried cleaning the bobbins then? This is what could be causing your pulsing since the grime in there is reducing the floating ability of said bobbins. I'd at least give this a try first since it'll be much cheaper than new bobbins and much less effort than swapping them.

ALSO this. I think I have these on my bike. EBC Brakes X series Floating rotor with square sided buttons. I tried but could not spin them. I'm glad I did not try to hard or it would have f'ed up them up for sure. They look just like others but do not move/spin.

Definitely would not want to try to spin those.

The more reading I do on this topic the more I am convinced that the bobbins on the VFR rotors are more of a rivet and not really designed to have any play to side to side. I did put a bolt, washer and nut through one of the rivets, and of course I could spin it with a modest amount of force, but it will never really allow the rotor to have the side movement that I am trying to achieve. My BMWs had true bobbins with a wave washer on every other bobbin that kept the rattling to a minimum, which is what I am trying to replicate. I have found one or two suppliers of bobbins, but I do not know the dimensions of the existing rivets on the VFR. Does anyone know the diameter of the rivet on the VFR? Of course I am looking for the outer diameter that contacts the rotor and the carrier (which can only be obtained once a rivet is removed). Does anyone have an old rotor laying around that they could send me ? Or has anyone removed a rivet and could send me the rivet (or the dimensions)?
