Anybody got "uglyBROS"

I'm sticking with my Joe Rocket mesh jacket for summer. But I don't want to look like a total "power ranger". And don't like 'blue' jean look.

Anybody have a pair of uglybros?
Other opinions?

 

That's a tough one, so personal and subjective. You say Joe rocket mesh for summer, so I take it you are looking for that every day mild weather style? leather or fabric.? There's lots of choices and the prices are all over the place. I'd just check out your favorite brand and go from there. The inter net on this subject is truly your friend.

 

I've been researching. I'd like a jean-like pant. Not an overpant. Something casual but still armored.

Although this topic has come up before, as its own thread and as part of other ATGATT type of post, I'll indulge this one too. I have found that the 'Slider' jeans/pants to be very affordable and have held up pretty good after several years. I have 4 pairs of their pants now, jeans, khakis and cargo pants (x2). Other than fading that happened with one of the cargo pants, these seem to hold up wash after wash.

I first found them from an MCN comparison of riding jeans and these won a 'best buy' award. I have since been wearing them as my commuter gear and have even suffered a low side in them with no noticable damage to them. It was a very low speed fall, more like a drop, but ultimately they did their job and I continue to wear them and recommend them. Competition Accessories (www.compacc.com) carries them and they're less than $100.

Although they have pockets for armor, I found that most Jean style riding pants, unless very tight around the legs, the armor doesn't seem to stay where it needs to be unless in a seated position, so unless you crash in said position, strapped on knee/shin armor is a better option IMO.

As much as I would like to have "indestructible" jeans I have a hard time paying $200+ for them, and especially $600 for the 'Unbreakable' brand.

 

Yeah, 3 bills is too much for me.

That and I really love my Joe Rocket jeans ... kevlar lined with shin pads. I paid $158 CAD.

I really recommend buying Bohn armor to go underneath. You won't see it and it won't move around in a crash. It's tight against your body and it will be there when you most need it.

I have these too but have the traditional lycra model and these get really warm in the summer time! They now have a "mesh" version that would probably be great for summer but now I just use the knee/shin guards and some padded shorts. Turned out much cheaper than getting just the mesh pants.

 

I had to grow a beard just to watch that video...

 

Look, I've been down. The whole Kevlar jeans thing is cool and I get it. Just remember, pavement is fucking hard, so figure out how you are going to get some armor over your breaky parts. Kevlar may protect against abrasion, but what's protecting against your elbows and knees etc from getting broken because of the impact?

 

Hipster motorcycle gear. Those are nothing but jeans, they'd literally do nothing in a serious slide (aside from get ripped to shreds).

I've thus far tried Draggin Jeans (fit like crap, and the sizing is insanely incorrect, knee armor fits weird), Icon's kevlar jeans (made like shit, I could literally tear the inseam apart with my bare hands), and Hood. Hood jeans are, by far, the best textile motorcycle pants I've tried so far. Not saying they are the best, but of the three I've listed, it's no contest.

 

EXACTLY! That's why I prefer to where the armor underneath jeans, rather than using the knee pad pockets to hold the armor.

 

I like the idea of over guards for knees and shins. Put em on to ride, pull them off at your destination and put them in a tank bag or something.

I also understand a need for pants that you can ride in and then also wear off the bike, without needing a dressing room or storage space for removed clothing (or sweating through your clothes on the way there.) Obviously you are compromising on safety, but I think it can be done in a reasonable way as long as you are aware of what level of protection you are willing to settle on. I find Revzilla's video reviews pretty helpful at least with the look, sizing, and armor options of riding jeans, though of course they don't say anything about post crash performance.
