Why Do We Ride Motorcycles?

John451, I think I found the bike of your dreams...

 

OK...so lets hear what the first bike was that you ever rode.....
Mine was a Taco 22 in 65

 

Mine was a Harley. Ok, it was an M-50, but it was still officially a Harley. Coincidentally, it was also the last Harley I ever rode.

 

Honda S90. As I recall it had only 2 speeds - full stop and flat-out.

But it was one of these that nearly saw me give up the sport...

 

An old biker told me "Let those who ride decide." If someone doesn't ride than anything they have to say to me about motorcycles is invalid.

 

Yesterday I took a ride on an unfamiliar twisty road. On a decreasing radius corner I had one of those pulse-quickening, eyes-widening moments - LEAN HARDER! - followed by a big grin!

 

Last time I rode an ITyami I hit a caved in mine shaft out here in the dessert and broke my collar bone...oh it was my buds bike and totaled it...not a fun day

My second bike was a Hodaka Super Rat, assembled in Athena, Oregon. Oddly enough, I was riding through Athena last year with my brother when the fuel pump filter on his ST4 plugged. A really kind farmer drove me to pick up the filter at a NAPA store and drove right past the Hodaka assembly building, now deserted. Very cool.

 

First bike I rode was a Yamaha 50 back in the mid 70s:

That Yamaha...what was it called? I remember the gold 90cc... Back in the day all my buddy's rode the white 125 or the Bulltaco 250 Sherpa...or the Kawi green streak.. I think thats what it was called..everything back then had down swept chambers....

 

I don't remember; that was a pic I pulled off the internet. Lots of water has passed under the bridge since then~

 

Ain't that the truth...somethin like 40+ years....

So you can answer people?

If they're perfect strangers you'll never see again, the answers quite simple.

"Why do you ask stupid questions?" is simple

if they're of considerable girth. "so are triglycerides" is appropriate

If you really want to be an ass, reply with "do I know you?"

when they say "no" respond with "oh good, for a moment there I thought I might have to give a crap about what you have to say"

May seem harsh, but strangers who randomly bring this crap up is generally going to lead to them wanting to tell you about their deceased friend, family member, coworker, postman etc.. who died on a bike. You're well within your right to nip these conversations in the bud before it gets to that. No reason you should have to sit through that depressing nonsense.

 

Do it weekly at work, usually cut um off after hearing my brothers friends dad was riding and......just stick my fingers in my ears and say out loud.

Had this one co worker start spouting her shit about how the odds are against me.....well she won't even look at me now since I layed into her bull shit.....
