I would contact K&N and see if you can get your repair paid for by them...

I do...I glance every few seconds because I like to have a pocket around me just in case I have to make evasive maneuvers. I saw the smoke just as it started. Now one was too near me. I knew it was my moto. Flipped killswitch immediately, gentle braking, pulled off.

EXFUCKINGACTLY! Send them an email with pictures and tell them you are not confident in their product which caused you this experience and expense. Ask them what they are prpared to do for you. Let them know you are not interested in a replacement filter you do not trust but you are expecting compensation fro your out of pocket expenses for this issue. I would not be afraid to let them know that many bike riders are following your thread here on one of the larger motorcycle forums.

Why not trust OEM filters? I do trust them. But getting rapped up the ass without a condom by Honda's prices I am not in favour of. There are others out there I am sure, but for about 1/4 or 1/3 the cost, you can get an equal or better filter from Bosch and others. Bosch filters at WalleyWorld run under $5.00 here while OEM run about $15.00 Same with fairing clips. I know I posted up a few years ago much the same opinion about cheaping out on other than OEM filters, but research will get you to a quality product for far cheaper. Have been using Bosch for several years now. I finally crossed that 197,000 km mark so I guess they are working quite well

Or you can just ask SOW what he uses.

Randy I really don't think they will give a shit. I wrote him a long letter after I almost bit it on the track. Contacted them several times and all I got was a free filter. Had a leaked on the VFR too. On that one they asked me to send them the filter, I did and never heard back from them. Even after I wrote them a few more times never heard a word. But then again I'm not a pretty young girl so maybe Ann-Marie will have better luck. LOL

Doubtful, all of these products seem to limit their liability to product replacement, only. Has anyone used those "Scott" reusable filters? (I think thats the brand name?)

Whew, so could have been way worse. From having a chat with her, seems there was a whole 1/2 Qt left. I asked the same thing wondering how far the engine ran with no oil. Yep K-N filter went shiety on her, I'd be having a serious conversation with K-N for what good it would do, who'd want another filter from em. On a cool note the service tech looked at the clutch lever assembly seems as though the release tab is missing in action. That was like an hour ago, she thought in another half hour she'd be on the road after a good scrub down, so by now she should be on her way...again. Her destination is SD. What a trooper.

I have been able to source my Honda Ridgeline filters for about $5.00 cdn. Original Honda ones. Now, I am looking for a cheap place to get bike filters, too. I don't like paying $15.00 either, but I hate Wal Mart even more, and won't support them.
