So glad to see that you're one the road again AM. Not sure where the photo is taken but hopefully the rain stays away for at least the rest of today's voyage. All the best and keep smiling.

Dielectric grease in the connectors will keep the water out and prevent oxidization.

It's non-conductive for a reason - and we could start a whole thread about like oil, but we'll keep to the main topic here, AM's trip across Canada. :)

She's just about to hit Jasper. She's looking for a hostel or BnB ... I'm sure she'll check in once settled. She's going to share her revised route with me so we know where she's going between seeing everyone. I'm so excited for on this trip. I'm green with envy that I'm not going with her.

Oh well, my trip starts on Friday ... and I've already had a few challenges.

Quickly while I have service in the lodge. Another challenging day of riding due to weather, but not in the least discouraged. I'm in the mountains!!!! I've always dreamed of coming here. Surreal.

Plus after riding 5 hours in 40-44 degree temps and rain, 30s in the mountains, I spoiled myself.

I read through everyone's posts, but I'm sorry I won't have time to reply to all since this place is about to close. Imma finish my rum and bun warmings by the fireplace.

Know that I appreciate of the thinking aloud trouble shooting on this bike issue. If it keeps happening, there will be plenty of ideas to go with.

I'll redo routes tonight. I just saw emails from a few of you members about plans. Since the moto hiccup, I'm behind some time. I'll let you know plan changes. I'll pm you them.

Yes, the friends here are amazing!! Lol, I'll come visit you without a breakdown.
Of course all of you are welcome here in podunk Kansas!!

Wow, incredible. how you're able to keep going, what a spirit. Thanks for letting us know how you're doing. Beautiful pics, but it sure does look cool there, at least there's no shhhsh! rain. Here's a prayer the weather gods will play nice, god knows you deserve it.

You should be ridinb by Mt. Robson Monday if you don't stay in Jasper. Hopefully you can see it crom the highway as it is quite majestic. Haben't seen it myself but that might change as I want to basically follow your route at least to Prince George on our way home from Winnipeg.

    Awesome Weekend!

    FSCN0558.jpg DSCN0559.jpg DSCN0560.jpg
After driving to Vegreville (World's Largest Pysanka, or Easter Egg) and loading Anne Marie's VFR800 into my Truck, we proceeded to go the last 100 k.m.'s to Edmonton. Unloaded the bike and had some tea. But... A.M. stayed up later, and was up and in the garage when I woke up! Proceeded to remove bodywork (Fricken' cheap plastic grommets!) and check behind instruments for the "Smoking Gun"! Nothing found. I'd agree with VF1000fe who thought that clicking she heard was the relays as the battery drained. All of the wiring is in perfect shape, and it doesn't look like any water is getting up into that area. Checked battery after removing the surface charge, 12.2V. Checked voltage when cranking, 11.1V. When idling, 14.4. So, the charging system seems good. Battery included. Thought of doing some voltage drop testing, but it didn't seem warranted. Wiggled all of the wiring behind dash, beside the frame, on both sides, checked fuses too. Put a dab of dielectric into all accessible connectors. Couldn't get bike to misbehave! Is either water playing w/connections, or something electrical. Or, could even be a side stand switch wire that is routed poorly, heats up and causes bike to not start. Seems to be something that causes bike to not to be able to even turn over. At least if it reoccurs she has a few solutions. A boost pack, or get a boost, or if desperate, she can even point it downhill, or put it in high gear, run, jump and dump the clutch! At least we made sure that there was not a bad short, or burnt wiring behind dash. Looked safe. Now, if the cold and rain would quit following her!
For me, it was a good weekend. I get more out of helping someone out, sharing my knowledge, and opening up my humble home and whatever else was needed, than they got out of it. It is good that Anne Marie is able to accept the help. Half of the time I'm too proud or self sufficient to do that. But this weekend showed me that it's good to both give and receive. Also spoke briefly with Jeff, an obvious "StandUp" guy. Nice to see that A.m. is in the Mountains.
Thanks to everyone on the forum, too, for all the posts, etc.
Keep the updates coming, Anne Marie!

GT750 ... you're an awesome guy for running out at night and driving an hour to pick her up and offer your home for her to warm up and dry out. Your wife is awesome for agreeing to go along with all this and helping coordinate. :)

I'll be passing through Edmonton one of these days and plan on looking you up along with a very good friend of mine who's living in Edson.

I am pretty stumped by her electrical issues as well. Water in the connections is the only thing I can think of at this point (she was getting 3.8v with the key in the ON position when the problems were happening). Did you manage to get some dielectric grease into her stator and r/r connectors as well while you had the fairings off? I see you guys went whole hog and took the whole front clip off. :p

Had she stayed in Manitoba longer, I was actually going to beef her charging system up like mine but it would have taken more time than she wanted to spend in one place (she's a lady on the move!).

my headlight replacement-I went through the wiring looking for bad wires-used some electricity grease, I am running a shoie special battery that is lighter and charges better too-there are two fuse boxes- always make sure the spare one's are replaced, I bullet proofed the plate light after much trouble and used P1010242.jpg IMGP0332.jpg sliver the connections. THe vfr has outstanding lights for a bike

The weather out here yesterday was GREAT,..............NOT!! Raining, windy (so much so that power was knocked out in numerous places due to downed trees falling on power lines), and cold at 45 F. Perfect trip weather. Cough, Cough, Cough.

Today however is a completely different story. Sunny and warm with temps in the 75-85 F range, and supposed to hold that way until Sunday when it is supposed to drop to around 70 F. I sincerely hope the weather stays warmer for AM and the rest of the ride proves fantastic.

Sounds like we're all getting similar weather across Western Canada ... today was gorgeous! It hit 77*F and sunny.

Tomorrow is supposed to go back to being cold and miserable. One benefit of seeing AM head out West is that I have a rough idea of the weather headed this way. Haha!

    So...I may Bust.

I just checked the weather for Prince Rupert. 2 days of 10 degrees and rain.

I then checked the weather for Prince George and on down 97 and 99. Sunny and perfect.

Instead of Prince Rupert, I am considering heading to Vancouver early and taking the ferry to the island at Nanaimo and riding the 4. gt750 mentioned it would be worth it if I had time.

I'm thinking of making time considering weather. Plus I'd still make the far West coast.

If I decide this, Randy, I'm not sure, but I may be early.

I'm eating dinner now. Thinking about it.

It's more important make your trip enjoyable and have good memories rather than suffer just to say you did it.

I agree .... if it's miserable, then change plans. Enjoy the trip, no need to suffer just to get somewhere - those places will be there in the future and you can always come back.

    Nanaimo is beautiful!
