Put the new chain on last night. Man! Working with angle grinders is fun.

Haha. I love angle grinders too.

I have a chain breaker, but I used to use a dremel for this type of job.

I didn't like the sparks flying everywhere - they can cause rust pitting on certain parts of the bike potentially. Go to a welders house and check out their garage doors from the sparks hitting them all the time - some learn, some don't care. I used to sell overhead doors and would get warranty calls all the time for doors developing small rust spots - like someone spray painted the door with rust. I'd see the grinders and welder and ask them where they did the work, sure enough, it would be right next to the door (inside) or outside.

I gotchya. Angle grinder angled toward concrete. If my concrete pits, I don't care. No sparks hit bike, no children were abused and no animals were harmed in this chain replacement.

I mean exactly like that. Well if you change your angle a little, you can get the sparks headed straight down. That was my goal. Goal attained!

I do need to go back and make sure I used the correct anvil to widen out the master link.

If you measure with calipers to make sure it widened to the right spec, you should be OK.

@RVFR ... lol, just like that. That image is incredibly soothing - I don't know why it's so fun to use an angle grinder, but it is! How the hell do you keep your hub, sprocket and chain so damn clean? I do mine weekly and I just end up with a mess all over mine no matter how careful I am. I need to switch to chain wax I think.

;) not sure actually, other than I use a WD40 soaked rag after each lube job getting the extra off. Now that I have super white wheels LOL doh!, it shows more, but then I prefer to touch the vfr anyway I can if I'm not out riding, which I will be here in ten minutes after I post. woot-woot.

What specifically do you hate? You said it's more messy? How so ... splatter? Collects dirt?
