I have never seen pads fall apart. I have Alpine Stars, Fieldsheer, Cortech that are 2 piece zip together and a Teknic Xcellerator 1 piece for the track. The Fieldsheer is 11-12 years old and the pads are still in excellent shape and has been soaked a lot of times. the others are not quite as old but all are still holding up very well.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if suit armor is subject to the same limit of use as a helmet? i.e. 5 years. I would imagine similar to a helmet, it is exposed to sweat but also to weather elements as well, UV, rain, heat, cold, etc. Based on the added exposure, I would imagine that it would be more likely to have a limited life span similar to a helmet if not less.

Don't know the answer but after removing my armor that was like thick cardboard from my Tourmaster air intake, Revzilla to the rescue
Klim knee , shoulder and back...may need some trimming on the back protector.

Here is an article on D3O technology. 2 times the protection at a slimmer more conforming pad. SAS Tech is another in the smart tech area.
Some people did not like D30 when it first came out because it did not have a hard shell even though it had superior impact absorbtion the thought of an object piercing was a negative. So they designed it with hard shell casing too. If you are getting new armor I would check this product out. Free is great but superior protection is worth it imo.

This was the next video after your youtube explanation on the technology. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejN62qMPorc

It'll be interesting to see if they've improved their product over the last few years.

Well, after explaining my situation to Joe Rocket back and forth through a few emails, they sent me new elbow and shoulder armor pads that arrived today UPS and free too. They sent not as a warranty issue but as a "goodwill gesture". Maybe they feel these armor pads did not hold up as well as they intended them to either. Anyway, very nice of them and I appreciate that a good company will stand behind their product. Go Joe!

I kinda prefer the D30 pads as well, but for the sake of posterity, Aerostich's TF impact armor is supposed to work in a similar way, and I would argue that it's a little easier to trim it to fit weird pockets. Here is a link:

No, the safety padding inside helmets is EPS foam, a one time use styrofoam that breaks down after 6 years or so (faster if exposed to sweat, UVs, gas vapors, etc. Slower if kept in a box).

CE armor is indefinite and can be used again after crashing in.

It's also not supposed to desiccate. I've heard too many things about the quality of JR materials to consider them, personally.

The best armour is Forcefield, the CE2 mesh has semi pre cut sections so you either leave it in its cup shape or lay out flat and put in that way

BTW I've road tested the shoulder and hip armour, I'd have needed a new right hip joint if I hadn't had armour, as it is it just aches a bit now and then

I know you and Randy got good customer service from JR but I would really like to know what they are using in their armor, that is just not right breaking down that quickly. What if you had crashed say a month ago while wearing that gear? Are they still using the same armor? How long will the new armor be good for? Might be worth looking into.

Totally fair comment. I would be willing to bet, JR are not the only garment manufacturer who uses or used these pads. I suspect they have a source that supplied parts much like the automotive industry. JR also mentioned to me that they were switching to a new type of armour you could be right on with it being less that perfect in the first place. A good deal with this thread is about after sale service, which is something rare these days.

That type of customer service is getting very rare these days. They seem to be pretty good at communicating.
