Saw this article on Yahoo and wondered what others might think bout this situation? http://nbc4i.com/2016/04/27/mom-shamed-for-letting-7-year-old-daughter-ride-on-motorcycle/ I have ridden my kids on the back of my old Nighthawk a zillion times and never thought twice about it. Always with a full face appropriately sized helmet, gloves and jackets. Granted, their jackets weren't always true riding jackets, but they did have extra layers of protection. Also, as a kid, I rode on the back of bikes with my dad and uncles, with essentially nothing more than open face helmets with snap on bubble shields. It was one of the things that made me want to be a rider myself. Personally, I think many parents take "protection" of their children to almost insane levels these days, and helps to raise kids who grow up not knowing many of the simple pleasures us old farts just take for granted.
I saw this post and I fully support her. She's teaching her daughter right ... full equipment ... your kid could get run over crossing the street or walking through a parking lot. People should mind their own fucking business unless there's a clear case of abuse.
People should mind there own fooking business, kids now a days are in such a protective bubble, there not living. ...we had it made....and took it for granted. .shame on me
My 21 year old son (who was pictured in my post on the Honda Nighthawk) came by to visit yesterday, and wanted to ride the new VFR so bad it was killing him. I couldn't have been prouder. Didn't let him ride it though...:distrust:
I might get flamed for this, but I don't like seeing people ride small kids on the tank in front of them.
I to agree with you, if there not big enough to sit behind you and hold on tight...no go...as mentioned, should be wearing more then a helmet for protection God forbid anything happens
Situations like this always reminds of something I read by Henry Miller... “It is the people with secret attachments to various temptations who busy themselves with removing these temptations from other people: Really they are defending themselves under the pretext of defending others, because at heart they fear their own weakness.” Similarly, just because someone else is brave enough to do something that the are too afraid of doing, they force their fear onto others and try and make them see the act they are doing as being wrong. This is how many people feel about riding a motorcycle in general, if they fear it, then so should you, they don't like that others appear stronger than them.
You ain't got nothing on the people of Columbia. It's common for a family of 5 to fit on one bike ... and I'm NOT shitting you either.
I agree with this as well ... if the kid can't sit behind you, then they don't belong on the bike ... YET. That, and I think they're safer behind you than in front of you.
Although this is not related to putting a child on a motorcycle it is something that involves children. Spotted this on FB and actually think it's a good idea. Train your kids to spot motorcycles at an early age and hopefully it'll carry on into their driving years.
Always did that when my boy was young, thats when I had my Duc....he used to love sitting on it and rev the engine.
Yeah, probably not the safest but at the age of 7, I guarantee my Dad had me tucked in between him and the gas tank of his motorcycle. Only after I was too big to do that anymore is when I was put in back. Hell, I might have been even younger than that but I remember bugging him to take me for a ride all the time.
