Is there a screen LOWER than the stock?

I currently have an MRA Vario screen and i'm getting rid of it. Not right for me and just makes more noise. It's fine if i perch upright and get into the smooth air, but no matter what i do to the adjustable flap, it's noise, noise, noise.

    Time for it to go.

I have a generic double bubble screen which came with the bike which i shall be trying out. Might buy a stock screen, but if there's a LOWER screen than stock, i'd be interested.

Bet by the sounds of this you have probably done the research. From what I know the stock screen is the lowest. one could go no screen at all. SMH, or I guess one could cut one stock screen down making it even a bit lower. Have to say I haven't see one.

Use the screen you are going to bin as a testbed. Cut it down in place. Use a length of masking tape as a rough guide with a drawn line as a guide. Hand held Jigsaws with plastic blades work well. Some use Dremels but the tape will many times gum up from the heat generated by the high rpm of the tool. Edges can be smoothed with a block sander as needed.

It your present screen is a beater. 2-3 coats of Krylon fusion on the inside will appear as shiny black on the outside.

I like my MRA Vario Touring screen ... puts the wind right at my eye level.

That said, the stock screen is the lowest. You might be able to cut a bit more of it away, but there's not much meat left on the bone with it.

I won't be cutting the MRA screen down. It'll be sold. It's in excellent condition.

I'll fit the generic double-bubble i have, might cut that one down. Or might buy a stock screen.

As it is; The MRA screen pushes wind right up to the base of my lid which creates a HELL of a lot of noise over 50mph. Regardless of where the flippy bit is.

You can find OEM screens for cheap. (There is one in the classifieds but it is in the US.) Cut it down a couple inches with a jigsaw. If you do not like it, you will not have wasted much money or effort. You can google this and find out what blades and methods others have used for this purpose.

Holy crap ... how tall are you? I'm 6' with HeliBars and slightly taller saddle. That WOULD suck if it hits under the base of your lid, and I don't blame you for wanting to get rid of it if it's not working for you.

The MRA X-creen was slightly nicer than the Vario because it could be mounted to any windscreen ... you could adjust it so that it would force air to your chest instead of your head if you wanted to since it is on a single pivot vs. a dual pivot.

I am 1.80 cm and have heli bars on my bike
I have a d bubble on my bike I get the wind in my face plus the noise .
I even had a old helmet visor upside down fitted (bolted) to my d bubble screen http://vfrworld.com/photos/showphoto.php/photo/33227/title/vfr-800/cat/502
That didn't work either ,it was just to see if it would work .
And than I probably would get a MRA screen or powder bronze screen or Givi screen but it didn't work so I didn't get one.
But still would like to try / get one.
The oem screen is good there is no wind deflecting from the screen onto my helmet the wind is hitting your lower mid chest .
And to be honest its more comfortable than the db.
The db deflect the flies and other insects in my face (and i ride my shark evoline flip helmet often open)

Are you the same length as me and do you have helibars.

I have a oem vfr 800 2001 screen in good condition witch I don't mind to swap with your MRA because I want a touring screen .
Your screen is probably worth more than the oem and I am sure you can sell it were you are but if you are interested in a straight swap.
    Let me know.
I can even send mine first to you ,If you like it we swap if you don't like it you send it back .

"Are you the same length as me" Now now... ;)

I'm 5ft 11" / 1.8 meters. I have 1" genmar risers on the bike, but tempted by either Helibars or some kind of custom solution. Maybe the fabled Deauville top-yoke. (bad back and wrists) - I need to do something for the next year i have the bike before i either find a solution or trade it in for a Tiger 800 or a Tiger sport 1050.

I don't mind the wind hitting my chest and shoulders, they can't go deaf. I have AWFUL hearing as it is, with severe tinnitus and hyperacusis.

In principal; I would not object to a swap, but you're FAR from me and the postage costs would be insane. I could sell it on eBay for about £70 ($131 Australian) or more. I can get an OEM screen for £20-£30.

ExitRitual ... do you wear earplugs?

I wear 32db reducing earplugs .. I can still hear my music and intercom through them loud and clear, but they silence the ride almost completely. If you're not wearing them already, I suggest you do before your hearing loss gets worse. I know a lot of guys who refused to wear them and they now have massive permanent hearing loss / tinnitus.

I do. They're rated at -39db - Even then it's still pretty loud.

I wear them if i know i'll be going over 50mph, but not for commuting to work, which is 4 miles at 30mph. I always keep some spares with me, too.

We're in MPH on signs and all that, but still required to have a speedo which can or does also show KPH as we're part of Europe and they're all in KPH.

Helmet: HJC RPHA Max Evo which is rated at about 80db at 60mph - I couldn't really afford a C3 pro which is the next quetest helmet by a few db, but a few hundred ££ more.

Bizarre. I keep thinking you guys are on metric like us here in Canada.

At any rate, I have the RPHA-ST which should be the same. Have you removed the windscreen to see how it is without it?

We ARE on metric, but there are some hagovers from times past. MPH, euro-sceptisism (not from me), mild xenophobia (not from me) and a little bit of victorian-era thinking (again,; not from me).. oh, and 'missing the good old days of the empire' which literally NOBODY alive remembers, and it's just a warped fantasy for the previously mentioned types.

We also measure in feet and inches for height.

..Oh.. No. Haven't removed the screen. There'd be a lot of turbulence and it'd look silly.

I was only suggesting you remove it for a quick joy ride to see if it will really help with the wind or not.

I honestly don't think it will help a whole lot .. the vario screen itself is relatively short compared to the Givi Touring screen I had, and not much larger than the stock when you have the foil down. Got a mate with a VFR you can take their bike for a ride with or borrow the screen for a quick joy ride?

    A friend? I don't have those.

I do, however, have that previously mentioned short double-bubble screen which i will try, as well as -i guess- no screen. If the DB is an improvement, i'll buy a stock screen.

One advantage i DO have, is that i work in a motorbike shop. Though we have no VFRs in right now. They tend to arrive in packs, like Triumphs or Harleys.
