    Greetings all,

Curently ride an 02 ersion ( first with v-tech).
Does anyone out there have any advice / insights into freshening up suspension ? ... anything to deal with a 100 kg rider.
You can play with the adjustable bits but I had the distinct impression that after a few years suspension wears etc...
    Thanks

    the slug

Slugfest, Go Race Tech! I used their springs, oil, and Gold Rebound Valves. I'm happer with my $150 front upgrade than I am with my Ohlins shock out back. Next to my SS brake lines, Gold Valves were the best upgrade I have ever done... on any of my bikes.
Go to their site, they will hook it all up for your specific weight and riding style.
P.S. I do not work for Race Tech, just in case you were wondering

I have Traxxion Dynamics upgrade for my front and a Penske 8981 shock in the rear. Very happy!

this sounds really good to me. I was starting to think my front end didn't feel good, and $150 sounds a lot better than a newer front end off a high end bike. Not sure bout the back one yet, but I'm sure she could use work, too. That upgrade chesthing mentioned last weeks sounds pretty good, though.

Suspension freshen up - worth it

    Hey Slug,

nearly 10 months ago now I handed over my Y2K (with about 40K on the clock) to a local suspension guru. He worked out the spring rate for both front and rear (to take into account my weight) and replaced same with Racetechs after also revalving. The front forks also got new oil and seals. The rear shock was also jacked up a tad while the forks where dropped about 5-10mm.

The outcome was that the front felt very planted while also turning in much faster/easier. I've now got a much better suspension setup for adjusting the preload to riding solo or two up with luggage.

All up it cost $700 and I reckon it was worth every penny..

    Cheers!

Yeah, I did that last year and it helped but I think I ride too hard for the stock springs.

I also considered the front end swap, but have some reservations about it. One, would my rake and trail be changed? Would I be disturbing the VFRs renound handling? Two, would it effect the height of my clip-ons (I'm getting older you know), and three, I'm kinda partial to my linked breaks now (once again, I'm getting older).
I ashure you that you are on the right track.

Last year I had the Race Tech springs and gold valves etc installed, and a new penske sport shock outback, to this day it's the best dollars I've spent, I went with the 95kg springs and I'm 20lbs lighter this year and the bike still feels very planted, and smooth.
