Dying over this seat

thats a corbin seat by the looks of it.

 

Nah I didn't email him as I have seen it on other bikes as well so I was sure it was a mass produced seat. That was just the link I found when I decided to ask on here haha. Yea it reminds me somewhat of the lady and the gunfighter seat I had for my 85 nighthawk, so I was thinking corbin but its so hard to find info on the discontinued seats. But at least now I have something to go on (hopefully) thanks

 

The link provided by Knight is by John Perkins who had the first VFR Forum going on the web going back as far as 1990 and likely before that.

We all know what the old Chinese guy says aboot those who don't know history. They get "A's" for bullshit.

The overall forum is not "on the air" but Mr.Perkins still has a page up on the chronological histories of the marque. Perkins runs a computer lab at the U of Wisconsin.


The picture of that particular bike and seat over the years could have been replicated who knows how many times....

It could be a Corbin.. Corbin used to do custom work until thier custom work went to shit. I sent a BMW seat back four times until they sent it back to me attaching the seat with drywall screws..

If you are in the PNW, Try "Rich's Seats" in Kingston.WA. If you want that seat replicated maybe if it exists, find a pic of same sans the seat cowl.

 

Ok thank you for the info. I'm just a few hours from there, I may look into rich's.

 

My parts bike came with a seat that is ripped up so I was thinking of making a single style seat with it.

 

I think BB has shares in Rich's.

 

Yeah, that is a Corbin seat with the rear back panel done in white. Hehe, my Corbin also has drywall screws on the bottom too! :hss:

 

+1 on the Corbin. An old girlfirend bought one new for her bike way back in 86.

I have had Corbin with custom piping and Sargent's. The Sargent uses the original pan and was at least 1/4 the weight and did not have dry wall screws. lol

 

I wish! The first time I dropped in to Rich's, he wasn't doing bike seats much. Mostly cars. When the cars are a Mercedes 300SL one time and an Aston Martin DB4 the next it gets one's attention. Then on another trip, Rich was doing the cabin of the Miss Budweiser.

I think if Rich were to be asked about drywall screws in one of his seats, the response might be somewhat rude..

I had Rich build me a seat for the mach 1 91 in aboot 1992-93 after riding some miles on a borrowed Corbin. I opted when the bike was purchased for the center stand and not the seat cowl.. I traded a guy back East a cracked seat cowl for my stock VFR seat. Rich saves old seat pans..so my new seat by Rich was built on one of his seat pans. When I got the cowl fixed and painted it didn't fit. Rich fixed the seat no charge.

Rich also fixes those DIY seats too but not for free...

 

I asked Corbin aboot those drywall screws in my BMW seat. They told me they used them to prevent riders falling asleep.
