1998 5th gen dyno pull

Okie dokie, that was cool to see how it all worked out.

First, this dang bike, I couldn't chase it off my tail.



Once in Mike's shop things got fun.



Next was the software set up to read and create a map.



Wow, talk about a process, pretty cool though to watch how it all comes together. and oh that sound, marvelous even Mike had to comment you don't hear that every day.








and now for the final results... Drum roll please......

Wow, that bump down low is a beautiful thing. I really would love to do this but the trip out there from NY might be too rough.

 

Yea I get that. I'll say Mike went the distance here, helps that he has a thing for vfrs too, being back in the day he was Honda's go to man when Freedie was there. So I'd say he knows a thing or two. Yea that mid-range increase is nice to see, can't wait to give it a try.

 

That midrange looks very good, what have you done to the engine or intake ? The flat top is due to exhaust flow restriction ! What exhaust is that ?

 

factory 98 header and a slipon, plus a pc3?

 

Good eye Mohawk, Mike and I talk about exhaust systems for this machine, So much so he dug around thought he had part of a rc45 system from the day, but couldn't right away put his hand on it, but yep engine wise thats next. That would be cool if that was the happen. Yep Candy, your spot on less the details stock exhaust with a Staintune Doh! and a K-N filter, that's it, I use Chevron super for fuel. Mike really tinkered with the midrange knowing that's where one runs most of the time. fun to watch how the computer does it's thing. Heres just a couple interesting things that where in his shop that I got photos of. Mike has so many cool bits, it's almost a race museum . .

Like a lot of shops there's projects all over the place, on this table he has a CBR1000 super bike engine 200+ hp in a do over for the up coming season.




Here's his RC30 race bike he kinda putts around on once in a while, drool for the rear wheel.

 

That is a really strong midrange for those mods, I'd be interested in the PC3 map cell values for the 5000-10Krpm range. That is a very healthy engine if there are no other mods, 60lb/ft is way above anything I've seen from a 5th gen

 

Looks like my PM's are not working, so that is one very healthy motor.

Here's my bikes history, first run was not stock, most stock runs I have seen show 95-96hp consistently.

Then the latest from last year, the rev rnge has been extended to 12,500rpm, so 120 should be the number, the fuelling in the mid range was a bit off, so there may be some ponies lurking there.

What other mods have you done to achieve these numbers? Full exhaust I'm guessing from the top end, anything else?

 

Mohawk has a real two brothers full system, cams, air box mods, rapid bike racing etc....

Amazing results.....from the best tuner in the biz.

 

I took it out yesterday for a good romp. since it was tuned up, WOW! what an impressive machine. Even though I never really had a chance to go through full throttle, traffic and road conditions made me play smart, but it is easy to feel the difference, so much more in the mid range, comes outa 4k like nothing is in the way. I even tried a 3rd-4th gear short shift, pulls at 2-2500rpm before, it kinda shook it's head letting me know I should be down a couple gears. Now, nothing to it, it's no big deal just pulls away seamless. It now even has a new kinda sound, more like a snapping the whip, has more of a bite to it down low. I'll see if I can try out my new go pro skills, with luck I'll get what I'm talking about . Anyway Wow I'm pleased withe results, now like mentioned before a full exhaust would be nice, but I haven't even tried taking it out to upper limits yet Yippie! I'm stoked. and to think this is all dial in on new suspension, it's going to be a great riding season ...

 

Jay did you have a PC map installed prior to the tune? I am curious what your comparison is.

 

It was totally stock, less the K-N and staintune. I hadn't yet installed the PC3 as I wanted Mike to see how it was before hand.

 

I hope all youse gize got permission to use Mike from Norcalboy.

Got one question aboot his shop.. The blowers on the dyno platform are at the front of the bike. Where is the exhaust going?

 

What!? OMG should have drop his name then. wonder if that would have been good for another 2 Hps? Too funny 12' right behind the bike is a 14x14 shop roll up door that's wide open to a vast empty parking area.
