looking at the new vfr800 today i noticed that they come with or withoutthe linked brake system. i know that some people have run R1 front ends and front tires in their sixth gens to delete the heavy linked system. im wondering if we might could just use the fork parts from the new bikes on our bikes to delete the linked brakes??? would be a lot simpler and the wheels would still match

The new VFR (8th gen) does not have linked brakes. But maybe you were referring new as new to you, then that's different. In that ,then yes you can, it's called use F4I lowers and brakes for a bang for the buck. Doubt anyone would use the 8th gen quite yet due in part to $$$$$$, but those would probably would work as well being they too are 43mm and from what I've heard aren't to bad. But can only guess what it would run.. whew!!!! Yes, many folks have used other types of other forks ridding the dreaded linked system, RC51 is a popular version, as well as R1s, even some 954 and Kawasaki types will work. Throw enough money and effort and pigs can fly too.

thats what i meant, 8 gen does not have linked brakes. wondering if the outer fork tube would be a direct swap? if so it may becheaper and easier than a whole front end swap. just a thought

What RVFR was referring to was just keeping your stock triples, bars, wheel and axle, and buying the forks, mudguard and brakes from a CBR600F4/F4i off eBay. That will be a plug and play switch. You also get groovy adjustable damper parts along with some powerful 4-piston calipers. I've done something like this with my 5th gen but using VTR1000F forks and CBR600F4 brakes.

I don't know what the fuss is about. I find the linked brakes very useful as I don't have to go near the rear brake pedal while scratching through the hills.

I rode Guzzis' with linked brakes and the assorted hondas, thought it was a engineer/gag repsonse "car think" reaction to save us from ourselves. Basically :bs: My two cents, like the sound of a F4 converstion, a few people I know used to rid the bmw k bikes of their abs systems, nice mod too.

For some of us that are use to having full control of our bikes this is a big deal. A quick for instance is coming into a corner and performing a small trail brake you can easily lock up the rear. Between the linked brakes and heavy V4 engine braking don't even think of touching the rear brake. I can't even imagine dealing with this on the track with linked brakes. Try backing it in with a linked brake bike and you will be on your head quick. If the bike was just a tour bike then sure. But it's a SPORT tour bike.

About 6 1/2 pounds, around 4 1/4 of that is unsprung weight off the front forks--- a very positive change. You're removing quite a bit of cast iron in the switch.

I wouldn't consider trying to back in a VFR. It was hardly built with that in mind. It's like trying to rally drive a light truck. Not part of the intended purpose. I have a supermoto for backing shenanigans.
