Reading the propaganda on this petition, they say lane splitting is common practice most places around the world except for the USA. I call bull shit on that. As far as "common practice" goes, I suggest it is just as common in the USA, Canada Mexico, Luxemburg ow where ever as anywhere. Common practice does not mean legal. If they meant legal, they should be more careful of what they put in print. From what I have come to believe here on this forum, very few countries around the world actually have laws that either specifically allow it, or have nothing on the books to prevent it.

That said, I would sign the petition if it had anything to do with the laws here. We have 10 provinces and three territories here, all of whom have their own traffic laws. I do believe the USA is the same. Lane splitting is permitted in California. I do split lanes while I am down there. Other drivers in cages are extremely good in Ca allowing for this. I doubt that I would lane split here for a long time if they enacted such legislation here. We really have some of the worst dumb fux driving in cages here in BC. Especially Chilliwack. A substantial portion of our aged population here should not even sit in the driver's seat when parked.

lane splitting is bitter sweet for me. I like the idea of splitting when everything is at a stand still and my bike is trying to overheat. When it's not busy, I just wait in line with everyone else at lights. Yet, here in Cali, there's plenty of A-holes, both in cages and on 2 wheels. Not uncommonly, there's someone on a bike that want's to "split lanes" on a crowded highway when the traffic is already moving at 70 mph. then as they split past you, literally pull in front of your bumper and then act like you're the ass for "tailgating" and not slamming on the brakes. Not sure how other states would react to this inevitable behavior. Of course, California is a completely different country full of it's own unique winners....

Australia is in the process of legalizing in all states. NSW, Victoria and Queensland all have legislation now, unfortunately they have all implemented slightly different rules which isn't ideal but it's better than nothing. I've been surprised to see that some drivers are actually catching on and adjusting their road position to account for splitting.

What we have here in the States is this:

This until it becomes a religious or racial agenda..

As a native Chicagoan who moved to California, I vowed I'd never split lanes. It just seemed too dangerous. Yeah, that lasted about a month after I moved to So Cal. Now I can't imagine NOT splitting lanes when riding. I wonder how riders in other states, who have never before split lanes, will feel about it. Most of the non-California rides I've talked to seem to feel lane splitting is really dangerous, though they've never done it. I also wonder if there might be a temporary spike in accidents.

Most have done it out here for years, but it is now legal, with speed limitations and I think they call it "filtering" which you really are only allowed to move through stationary or slow moving traffic to get up to the front at the lights

Yes it does seem slow. I emailed a link to friends of mine. I really would like to see it passed.
