Spotted a '98 VFR chained up to a fence, rotting its life away. What can be done about this?

In my neighborhood in Queens, NYC, I spotted a lonely old VFR just standing around. I don't think anyone has touched this bike for a good 6 years at least, since I think the last inspection sticker says 2009. It also has a bunch of tickets so I'm guessing that, if it were stolen, the cops would've known, but maybe the owner just left it here or died or something. :boink:

Anyway, can this thing be salvaged or what?

Wow, what a find, and of all the places. I'd see if you can get a hold of DMV and find who was the owner, from that maybe something could work out. I would also be careful too, whom ever gets attached may get all the back tickets thrown at em, just saying. But Hell yea these bikes can be brought back from the dead.

Unless somebody is having some photoshop fun. It sure looks like that bike's engine has gone MIA.

Not unheard of. There's a bike in the parking lot behind the place I'm renting. Drive by it everyday, hasn't moved in the entire year I've been here. A storm tattered the bike cover up some weeks ago and it's still sitting like that.

I see the engine fine in the first photo under the seat.

Besides that, the swing arm is attached to the engine.

You can see the cam cover in the first photo so yea it's there, but in the second photo looks like a sharpie pen line drawn around the outside edge, could be the way the flash did it's thing. Still???

I agree, the engine is definitely in residence. I can see the front and rear camcovers, the sprocket cover, the exhaust manifold and as Tink points out, there's a swingarm attached! But is there an underseat exhaust, because it looks like a connector pipe in the gap above the chain guard?

I can get some more pics another time. Maybe over a weekend or something. What should I look out for? (Besides the existence of an engine, of course :p)

Now I get it! In pic #2 what we have is one of Honda's invisible engines.

Can make out the oil cooler in pic two, the valve cover is the same color, and mobiles take shitty low light photos.

If I really wanted that bike, I'd show up at 4 AM with a truck, some bolt cutters, and a buddy. What neighborhood in Queens? (lived there for a few years).

If it has been there that long you might wonder why someone has not stolen the chain.

You could probably make a few bucks off it parting it out to others in need.

Plastics are old, and maybe brittle, but possibly salvageable.

The one side of the gas tank doesn't look too bad, but that doesn't account for what's inside.

Forks, if not bent. This bike does appear to possibly have been laid down.

Levers? Shifters? Even the headlight assembly looks clean with no cracks or oxidation. I know someone who just paid $150 for a used one...

Jesus, first thing that popped in my head when I saw this was that Sarah McLachlan commercial about abused animals.
