Is this the dreaded cct sound? I found this video on YouTube and I have the same sound on my 03. I have 38K on the clock http://youtu.be/--nMrDU6OJY Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
That's what is happening. I wear ear plugs and only hear it at idle after the bike is warm. When it's cold I don't hear it. I don't hear it when moving at speed either. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Most likely what it is. I seriously doubt a 38K VFR engine has lower end damage unless some serious neglect took place. If you had a spun bearing you'd know it. It doesn't sound nice.
That's what I was thinking too. Never heard the sound on another bike though. Most YouTube videos suck so it's hard to know for sure. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I ordered the new cct for the front to see if that is what is causing the noise. Going to swap plugs and change coolant and oil since I will have the panels off too. Hopefully that clears it up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
In the future you can grab one of these. Results are hit and miss, but you may be able to at least isolate the noise area. Pretty cheap too, so it's not an investment. http://www.harborfreight.com/mechanics-stethoscope-69913.html
Might not be a bad idea. I just figured since I will have the panels off to do the coolant I should do the front one first. If the noise persists after that I will do the rear. Several people have reported not doing the rear for several thousand more miles. Most seem to get double the miles of the front one. I did some searching and people were mentioning enlarging the oil hole in the new seal. What is the popular consensus about that? Good idea or bad? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Over at VFRD there is a long thread about it. Apparently, enlarging the hole is a good thing. But if your CCTs are rattling, they need replaced. The larger hole helps them live longer
Update. It was the front cct. I installed a new one and enlarged the oil hole at the same time. While I was in there I put in some new plugs and changed the oil and coolant. Much better now. Up next is flushing brakes and clutch and I am all set for riding season. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
