I just bought an immaculate 91 vfr 750 with original 46000ks (low for Australia)
I paid way too much for it but got sick of looking at cheap ones with crappy body work.
The only thing I don't like is the original owner had the wheels powder coated gold.
I want to paint them the original color which I thought was white but I was told the 91 never had white wheels and it should be bronze to match the brake calipers ?
    Is that true ? gc4816350726845425356.jpg

At hondapartshouse.com, the 1991 VFR750F bikes have wheel parts listed as YR129M Summer Blond Metallic.

Pretty sure the 90's were white and, like stated above, the 91's bronze (Summer Blond Metallic)

    Edit: For the U.S.

I think the silver out of the decals would look sweet. It would look like it could be stock, but different than other VFRs.

I sanded back a small section of the rear and they are white underneath but maybe that's just the under coat ?
I should really do the correct color as the bike is going on classic registration being 25 years old and apart from a high mount exhaust I want it stock as possible for club runs.
Was sort of hoping it was white as I really like that red/white combination but I have the front resting on a bare silver ducati wheel and it does look nice !
Have to make my mind up soon as the wheels are at the powder coater's now being stripped .

My '91 is an untouched original, and the wheels are a very pale bronze, very subtle, and lovely. NOT gold. You might want to double check your upholstery - I know gray was factory in 91 but not sure about red (but I'm always ready to be educated !)

The red seat is correct Uk and Australia got that and also grey.

Powder coater said the wheels where white underneath the the gold and appear to be factory so maybe mine is very late 90 plated early 92 .
Decided I will just go the bronze matching the calipers.

The wheels for the red bikes were probably all white to start with. Then in some room at Honda, 703 dudes that make up the rules for which colors are best for some places made the decision that bikes going to OZ should have bronze colored wheels. Probably the same deal with seat colors only there are only 670 dudes at the factory on that group.

I guess to really be authentic one wheel could be white and the other that bronze color.

Well it turns out the Australian delivered 91's had white wheels after all and that was confirmed with my VIN through the local Honda dealer so maybe I should paint each side a different color and enjoy the best of both worlds :topsy_turvy:

As long as the rear wheel is used on the rear and the front wheel is used on the front, IMO, you are good to go.

Painted some "spokes" on some mag type wheels on another bike I have a different color than the rims. Paint color matched the paintwork on the rest of the bike.
