Where's your car key worn? You might be able to buy a cheap blank, and transfer the "chip" to the new key. I got a new plastic case/buttons for my wife's Mini key, and while the remote unlock worked fine, the car would not start. Turned out there was a chip in the original plastic key body, I transferred that to the new key body and all was well. The chip was a small rectangular block about the size of a grain of rice.

^don't you love "technology?" Pretty good trouble shooting that no-start situation, curious; did the car throw any codes regarding the key issue?

I got a replacement gas tank when I bought my second Mach-1, I also bought a new oem honda gas cap. So, there I was with a different gas cap key that did not match the ignition. Peace, get a replacement set of forks fer gawds sake! It's too good a bike to let go or worse part out. :peace:

As long as the car recognises the RFID chip in the key then the starter fires. No chip, or no recognised chip, and the starter circuit is dead. All I did was physically transfer the chip from the old key housing to the new one.

Wow! Talk about falling off of the rails.

Anyway, back to the subject at hand. Honda was not help in tracking down my key. The good news is, the locksmith that helped me a few years ago with another motorcycle restore is still in business. He didn't seem to think it will be a big deal. Hopefully dropping by tomorrow afternoon.

Do carbide tips make any sparks or get hot, never been game enough to try and drill a lock out, have always drained the tank and taken the it to a locksmith

The idea here is that young Smith is aboot as much help as SOW or your Honda dealer. Even train tracks are sometimes not totally linear.

Problem: solved!! A shout out to http://mrkeys.net/ in Upland, CA. He picked the lock and made two keys in about as long as it took me to eat my pseudo Hawaiian lunch. $55. And whatever lube he sprayed into the lock made my gas cap work much smoother.

This thread reminds me of a guy with a keyless ignition on his track bike but still had the keyed gas cap. He forgot his key and after every session I walked by to see what destruction was going on to his gas tank. I think they finally got a small hose in it , filled it up and got some track time in.

Cool now you can feed it again!

Now maybe consider selling the newly refurbished cap on ebay for $55, and get a keyless cap :beguiled:

I don't know, this is a VFR. Harley is still trying to figure out how to make a motor like that... they may want to swipe it to study it. ;)
